Abstract: Un metodo para preparar una composicion de material activo de electrodo negativo para una bateria de plomoacido que comprende un negro de humo que tiene un area superficial de al menos 250 m2/g y un expansor de moleculas organicas, en donde la relacion de negro de humo a expansor varia de 5:1 a 1:1, comprendiendo dicho metodo: combinar un oxido de plomo, el expansor de moleculas organicas, y BaSO4 para formar una mezcla de polvo seco; anadir un negro de humo prehumedecido que tiene un area superficial de al menos 250 m2/g a la mezcla de polvo seco; combinar acido sulfurico y agua con la mezcla que contiene el negro de humo para formar una suspension; formar una pasta intermedia de la composicion de material activo de electrodo negativo; y secar la pasta intermedia para formar una composicion de material activo de electrodo negativo solido, en donde la composicion de material activo de electrodo negativo es un solido poroso que tiene un tamano medio de poro que varia de 0,8 μm a 4 μm.

Abstract: The present invention provides a method of treating silica, wherein dry silica is contacted with a reaction medium consisting essentially of concentrated aqueous acid and a hydrophobing agent selected from the group consisting of organosiloxanes and organochlorosilanes. The silica is then reacted with the hydrophobing agent in the reaction medium for about 90 minutes or less at a temperature from about 10° C. to about 40° C. to provide a hydrophobic treated silica. The hydrophobic treated silica then is recovered.
