Abstract:
The invention relates to methods of making films having active ingredients. A film that is substantially free of active ingredient is introduced into a medium comprising an active ingredient. At least a portion of the active ingredient is transferred from the medium to the film. The films can be used in a variety of applications, including oral care, personal care, cleansing and/or home care compositions.
Abstract:
An oral carrier strip for the delivery of an oral care composition to the oral cavity of a human or animal subject is provided. The strip includes a first portion adapted to contact a front facing side of a plurality of teeth. A second portion is provided to be folded around the teeth so as to contact a back facing side of the teeth. The first portion has a first perimeter patterned to substantially match a shape of an outer gingival tissue, and the second portion has a second perimeter opposite the first perimeter and patterned to match a shape of an inner gingival tissue. The second perimeter defines an aperture disposed in the second portion having a rounded notch positioned in a center portion of the strip, configured to prevent the strip from tearing when folded around the teeth.
Abstract:
A method for treating a mammal having oral tissue inflammation is provided, where the inflamed oral tissue is contacted with a safe, efficacious, non-irritating oral composition having an anti-inflammatory agent comprising a magnolia extract. The magnolia anti-inflammatory active ingredient reduces one or more mediators of inflammation and reduces inflammation in oral tissue. The oral composition can be in the form of a mouth rinse; dentifrice, including toothpaste, gels, powders, lozenges; medicament gel; animal products; and the like.
Abstract:
An oral composition comprising in an orally acceptable vehicle, an effective antiplaque amount of an halogenated diphenyl ether or phenolic antibacterial compound, and an amount of a mixed anionic/nonionic surfactant system at weight ratios of about 14:1 to 9:1 which ratios are effective to increase the uptake of the antibacterial compound to dental tissue so as to enhance the therapeutic efficacy of the administered antibacterial compound.
Abstract:
Oral composition containing an effective amount of N-methylpyrrolidone alone or in combination with a noncationic antibacterial agent such as Triclosan for topical application for the prevention of plaque, gingivitis and/or caries.
Abstract:
The invention is directed to an oral composition that contains an amphoteric surfactant and an homo- or copolymer comprising an ethylenic monomer and related methods. The ethylenic monomer includes a phosphonate group. The monomer may be represented by the structure of Formula (I), wherein one of A and A' is a hydrogen atom and the other is selected from a hydrogen atom or a group -(X) n R m ; wherein n is i\selected from 0 or 1; provided that when n is 0, m is 1, and when n is 1, m is an integer of 1 to 3; X is selected from an oxygen atom, a sulfur atom, a nitrogen atom, a phosphorous atom, and silicon atom; R is independently a hyuderogen atom or an arganic radical; L is selected from a bond and a linking group; M and M' are independently selected from a hydrogen atom, an alkali metal, and an ammonium ion, or together form an alkaline earth metal or other divalent element; and p is 1 or 2, provided that when L is a bond, p is 1.
Abstract:
An oral composition comprising a vehicle and a zinc ion source in the form of nanoparticles that are substantially non-aggregated and methods for use of such compositions are described. The composition provides antiplaque and anti malodor benefits to the user and the inclusion of nanoparticles permits a reduction in the amount of zinc ions present in the composition while maintaining efficacy.
Abstract:
An anti-staining, antibacterial dentifrice comprises an anti-staining effective amount of an orally acceptable polymer or copolymer that comprises a plurality of monomeric groups of formula (I) wherein (a) one of A and A' is hydrogen and the other is a moiety (X) n (R) m , (b) n in individual such moieties is independently 0 or 1, (c) linking groups X if present independently comprise an oxygen, sulfur, nitrogen, phosphorus or silicon atom, (d) where n is 0, m is 1, and where n is 1, m is independently an integer from 1 to 3 as determined by X, (e) terminal groups R are independently hydrogen or C 1-18 organic radicals, and (f) M and M' are independently selected from hydrogen, alkali metal and ammonium; said polymer or copolymer having an average molecular weight of at least about 1,000. The dentifrice further comprises an antibacterial effective amount of an orally acceptable halogenated diphenylether antibacterial agent, and an antibacterial enhancing effective amount of an orally acceptable polyvinylmethylether/maleic anhydride copolymer.
Abstract:
Tooth-whitening films comprising a hydratable polymer and a whitening agent are disclosed in which the films have a hydrophobic coating on one surface and a tooth-adherent coating on the opposing surface. Flavorings can also be included in the hydratable polymer portion of the film or in either the hydrophobic coating or the tooth-adherent coating. Tooth-whitening methods that use the films are also disclosed. The hydratable polymer preferably is a polyethylene oxide.
