Abstract:
An oral care (toothpaste) amalgam composition has first and second aqueous phases. The first phase has a measured pH of from about 7 to about 9 and contains 2,4,4’-trichloro-2’-hydroxydiphenyl ether and a methylvinyl ether-maleic anhydride copolymer antibacterial-enhancing agent for the ether. The second aqueous phase has a measured pH of from about 3.5 to about 6.5 and contains hydrogen peroxide and an antioxidant for the hydrogen peroxide. Sodium fluoride, silica, and sodium lauryl sulfate are optionally independently present in at least one of the first and second phases.
Abstract:
An oral composition comprising in an orally acceptable vehicle, an effective antiplaque amount of an halogenated diphenyl ether or phenolic antibacterial compound, and an amount of a mixed anionic/nonionic surfactant system at weight ratios of about 14:1 to 9:1 which ratios are effective to increase the uptake of the antibacterial compound to dental tissue so as to enhance the therapeutic efficacy of the administered antibacterial compound.
Abstract:
A dual component chlorhexidine dentifrice composition of improved shelf stability in which the first component is a gel containing a bis-biguanide antibacterial agent in which the gel vehicle is thickened with a cellulose polymer and the second component is a paste containing a silica abrasive wherein the bis-biguanide antibacterial agent provides undiminished antiplaque and antigingivitis effect with reduced staining when the physically separated components are combined and mixed upon application to dental tissue.
Abstract:
It has been found that a mouthrinse comprising CPC and zinc ions is a very effective mouthrinse. It has an antibacterial effect that removes odor creating bacteria from the oral cavity. The CPC and zinc ions preferably are used in combination with an ionone terpene such as alpha ionone or a beta ionone.

Abstract:
The invention provides an antibacterial oral composition containing an antibacterial compound such as triclosan, a monoalkyl phosphate compound and an anionic surfactant; whereby, the antibacterial effect on dental tissue is substantially increased due to the combined presence of the monoalkyl phosphate compound and the anionic surfactant.
