Abstract: A modular construction falling film evaporator (1) is disclosed, comprising a stack (2) of alternate gap-like evaporation chambers (34) and sheet-like evaporator modules (3) with an assembly (31) of parallel microchannels (32, 33), whereby the evaporation chambers (34) are open above and/or below acros s the whole width of the module and the stack is arranged in a container (1). The falling film evaporator (1) is used in a method for obtaining a gaseous phase from a liquid medium on a technical scale and is suitable for the concentration of thermolabile solutions and rapidly adjustable production of a gas stream.

Abstract: A modular micro-reactor with parallel micro-channels on fluid guide plates for chemical reactions, but not for evaporation purposes, is known. A modular falling-film evaporator was developed, comprising a stack of alternate gap-type evaporation chambers and plate-type evaporation modules with a set of parallel micro-channels, the evaporation chambers being open at the top and/or bottom over essentially the entire width of the modules and the stack being arranged in a vessel. The falling-film evaporator is used in a process for the recovery of a gaseous phase from a liquid fluid on a commercial scale. It is suitable for concentrating thermolabile solutions and for providing a rapidly controllable gas stream.
