Abstract: A vacuum envelope capable of preventing contamination of an electron source and deterioration of luminous characteristics of a phosphor layer. Electrons emitted from a tip end of emitter cones are accelerated by an anode conductor to which a positive voltage is applied with respect to a gate conductor, to thereby impinge on the phosphor layer, leading to luminescence of the layer. The luminescence is observed through a transparent anode substrate. Spacers are bonded at only one end thereof to a cathode substrate by means of seal glass, to thereby keep the seal glass from being irradiated with electrons.

Abstract: The anode conductors and the layers of fluorescent substance (6) are formed on the internal surface of the anode substrate (2). Electron sources are formed on the inner surface of the cathode (13), such that in order to make the two parts of the structure face each other. The anode substrate (2) is spaced from the cathode substrate (3) by a predetermined distance and the edges are sealed. A support element (15) is formed by a plate (16) in which there are a number of transverse holes (18) at predetermined intervals. These are traversed by reinforcing supports (19) whose middle sections are linked to the holes (18). Each reinforcing support has an end in contact with the internal surface of the anode substrate and another end in contact with the cathode substrate.

Abstract: An airtight envelope for an FED capable of ensuring formation of a gap or internal space therein with high accuracy and preventing leakage thereof and a decrease in display area. An anode substrate having a phosphor-deposited display pattern formed thereon and a cathode substrate having an electron emission source formed thereon are sealed joined to each other using a sealing material, to thereby provide an airtight envelope for an FED. The substrates are provided at a portion thereof joined together with particulate or bar-like elements which are kept unmelted or substantially unsoftened. Also, spacers are arranged at positions in a gap between the anode substrate and the cathode substrate which do not interfere with a display by the FED.

The rod material does not includes in its composition any alkaline component. Each rod has a hydrophobic surface thus reducing water absorption an oxygen emission.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent drop in luminescent efficiency of a fluorescent material, deterioration in emission capacity of an emitter, and shortage of life by using a glass material containing no alkali ingredient in a support, and making the surface of the support hydrophobic. SOLUTION: An insulating support 3A is arranged as a support for holding a cathode substrate 10 and an anode substrate 4. A non-alkali glass fiber containing no alkali ingredient is used as the material for a support main body 3a of the support 3A. As the non-alkali glass fiber, practically, a quartz fiber or an E glass fiber which is a kind of boron silicate is used. Generation of alkali ingredient diffused in a production process and during display device driving is suppressed, and drop in emission efficiency of a fluorescent material dot pattern can be prevented. A hydrophobic coating layer 3b is formed on the support main body 3a of the support 3A, the moisture content on the surface of the support 3A is reduced, and deterioration in emission capacity of an emitter and the shortage of device life can be prevented.
