The probe of the spectrometer according to the invention essentially has the advantages that it is inexpensive and extremely flexible, and that it can be matched to the concentration range of the solution to be examined, which makes it possible to fill the gaps in terms of measurable concentrations between conventional transmission spectroscopy and prior ATR spectroscopy.

Abstract: Method for the production of an optical coupler for polymer light-guides by arranging the light-guides in the same direction and bundling them by means of a plastic shrink-fit sleeve. In this method, two to 10 polymer light-guides are arranged in the same direction and bundled and a plastic tube is slipped over the mixing zone. Subsequently, a piece of plastic shrink-fit sleeve is pushed over the plastic tube and the shrink-fit sleeve is heated to a temperature at which it contracts. The shrinking temperature of the shrink-fit sleeve is within the thermoelastic temperature range of the plastic tube. The light-guide bundles may be stretched during or after heating.

Abstract: Method of manufacturing optical couplers from polymers, the coupler structure being produced with the aid of an injection-moulding process and amorphous polymers, in particular PMMA, polystyrenes, polycarbonates, polyolefins, polyesters, polysulphones, polyethersulphones, polyetherimides, polyacrylates, polyamides or polyestercarbonates being used with preference as polymers. The coupler element is solid and may be coated with a polymer which has a lower refractive index than the coupler, so that the diversion takes place in the coupler itself.

Abstract: Process for manufacturing an optical coupler for polymer light-guides with the aid of the ultrasonic welding technique. The fibres (2, 6) are heated to a temperature of 50 to 250 DEG C for 0.2 to 3 hours before welding. The polymer light-guides are introduced into a small plastic tube (5), which during the welding operation fuses with the said light-guides to form a unit.
