Abstract: PURPOSE: To provide a process for production of fibers having superior spun fiber properties, eminently improved half-life of charge and improved charge stability. CONSTITUTION: Electret fibers having improved charge stability are composed of a material which predominantly contains a fiber-forming polymer or polycondensate and an org. or organometallic charge control compd., as contained in toners for electrophotographic processes, wherein 0.01-3 wt.%, preferably 0.01-10 wt.%, particularly preferably 0.1-5 wt.%, based on the weight of the material, of the org. or organometallic charge control compd. is contained. The preparation thereof is also provided.

Abstract: Measuring device for the determination of the concentrations of inorganic and organic compounds in a sample, with a sensor which is to be brought into contact with the sample and which contains a fluorescence-optical indicator which after excitation via an excitation light source fluoresces as a function of the present concentration of the inorganic or organic compound to be detected. The measuring device has an arrangement for measuring and analyzing the incident radiation and the re-emitted fluorescence light. The measuring device contains a sensor element which is to be brought into contact with the sample and consists of a polymer matrix which is prepared from a) a matrix component which is derived from one or more units of the formula I where R - is hydrogen, deuterium or methyl; R - and R -, independently of one another, are hydrogen, deuterium or methyl, and the degree of polymerization, n is an integer in the range from 80 to 2500, preferably from 200 to 2000; b) a dye component which is immobilized covalently on the acyl chloride groups of the matrix component and c) one or more swelling components which are bound covalently to the remaining free acyl chloride groups of the matrix component.

Abstract: Method for the production of an optical coupler for polymer light-guides by arranging the light-guides in the same direction and bundling them by means of a plastic shrink-fit sleeve. In this method, two to 10 polymer light-guides are arranged in the same direction and bundled and a plastic tube is slipped over the mixing zone. Subsequently, a piece of plastic shrink-fit sleeve is pushed over the plastic tube and the shrink-fit sleeve is heated to a temperature at which it contracts. The shrinking temperature of the shrink-fit sleeve is within the thermoelastic temperature range of the plastic tube. The light-guide bundles may be stretched during or after heating.

Abstract: Method of manufacturing optical couplers from polymers, the coupler structure being produced with the aid of an injection-moulding process and amorphous polymers, in particular PMMA, polystyrenes, polycarbonates, polyolefins, polyesters, polysulphones, polyethersulphones, polyetherimides, polyacrylates, polyamides or polyestercarbonates being used with preference as polymers. The coupler element is solid and may be coated with a polymer which has a lower refractive index than the coupler, so that the diversion takes place in the coupler itself.

Abstract: Process for manufacturing an optical coupler for polymer light-guides with the aid of the ultrasonic welding technique. The fibres (2, 6) are heated to a temperature of 50 to 250 DEG C for 0.2 to 3 hours before welding. The polymer light-guides are introduced into a small plastic tube (5), which during the welding operation fuses with the said light-guides to form a unit. In another embodiment, a mixer rod, which has the same refractive index as the core material of the polymeric optical fibres, can be introduced into the small plastic tube (5), the polymeric optical fibres are brought into contact with it and the small plastic tube, the mixer rod and the fibres are welded to one another under the effect of ultrasound. … …
