Abstract: Catalyst for reducing carbon monoxide by means of hydrogen so as to obtain a mixture consisting substantially of C1-C4-hydrocarbons. The catalyst is made by precipitating a salt of a hydrocyanic acid of the general formula MeIMeII(CN)x, separating and drying the salt so precipitated and forming it. In the formula, the cationic component Me I stands for at least one of the elements Ce, Cu, Co, Ni, Fe, Mn, Zn, Ag and K or a mixture of these elements, or for Ca or Mg in admixture with (NH)4; the anionic component MeII stands for at least one of the elements Cu, Co, ni, Fe, Mn, Zn and Ag or a mixture of these elements; and x stands for the sum of the metal valencies; MeI and MeII are not permitted to stand for iron alone, or for a mixture of iron with copper.

Abstract: CH triple bond CH is introduced, with strong stirring, into a melt of ClCH2COOH and heated to 63-120(63-100) degrees C. Melt contains >0.1(0.2-30)wt.% metallic Hg and 0.1-10(0.5-7)wt.% chloranil, suspended as catalyst. When reaction is completed, (I) is sepd. from reaction mixt. (I) can be added to other vinyl esters, to modify and improveproperties of polymers. Use of chloranil has a stabilising effect. polymreisation of (I) is prevented. Chloranil oxidises Hg to active Hg-II-chloroacetate and prevents formation of inactive Hg-contg. sludge. (I) can be prepd. in >95% yield, w.r.t. converted C2H2 and C1CH2COOH.

Abstract: CO and hydrocarbons, e.g. combustion engine exhaust gases, are oxidised at 150-800 (200-700 esp. 300-600)degrees C to CO2 + H2O, in the presence of a high strength catalyst on a support composed of a mixt. of aluminates of Cu, Mn and Ni deposited on a pure Al2O3 support, there being 10-45 (20-35) wt.% aluminates. Cu:Mn:Ni wt. ratio is opt. (2-4):(1-2):(0.1-1). There is opt. 0.5-10 (1-7) wt.% Ce, deposited on the support as its oxide. Initiation temp. is low, and the reaction is unaffected by O2 concn. in the gas mixt.

Abstract: The disclosure relates to a process for making acetic anhydride by reacting methyl acetate and/or dimethylether with carbon monoxide, if desired in admixture with up to 20 volume % hydrogen, under practically anhydrous conditions at temperatures of 120 DEG to 270 DEG C., under pressures of 1 to 500 bars in the presence of a catalyst system containing nickel or a nickel compound, an organic iodine or bromine compound as well as a tertiary or quaternary organic phosphorus compound. More particularly, a catalyst system containing a titanium or zirconium compound as an additional constituent is used.

Abstract: The disclosure relates to a process for making catalytically active aluminosilicates from glasses by hydrothermal crystallization. The hydrothermal crystallization is more particularly effected in the presence of an aqueous solution of an inorganic alkali metal compound producing an alkaline reaction. Useful alkali metal compounds comprise alkali metal carbonate, water glass, alkali metal hydroxide or alkali metal phosphate. The catalytically active aluminosilicates can be used for dehydrating alcohols, ethers and other oxygen-contain-ing organic compounds with formation of hydrocarbons, or for isomerizing or alkylating hydrocarbons.
