Abstract: A method of establishing a trustworthiness level of a participant in a communication connection between a first communication partner and a second communication partner is proposed whereby the communication behavior is adapted to the established trustworthiness level. The participant is equippe d with a trustworthiness certificate and a therefrom separated securely stored participant private key. The first communication partner receives the trustworthiness certificate from the participant wherefrom the trustworthine ss level is derived and established. The first communication partner tests whether the trustworthiness certificate belongs to the participant by using the participant private key. In case the trustworthiness certificate is confirmed by the test to belong to the participant, the first communication partner communicates the established trustworthiness level to the second communication partner. Then, at least one parameter of the communication behavior is chosen in dependence of the established trustworthiness level.

Abstract: A computing device comprises a processor, a memory connected to the processor, and an application program stored in the memory and executable by the processor for generating data for communication to a remote computer system via a network based on a symbolic control information. A communications protocol stack is stored in the memory and executed by the processor for effecting communication of the data from the mobile device to the remote system. The protocol stack has an application layer for receiving the data from the application program and locating the data received in an application layer protocol data unit, and a network layer for receiving the application layer protocol data unit from the application layer, locating the application layer protocol data unit in a network layer protocol data unit, locating the symbolic control information in the network layer protocol data unit separately from the application layer protocol data unit, and forwarding the network layer protocol data unit to the network for transmission to the remote system.

Abstract: A method, system, and computer program product for exchanging supplemental information fields between a client and server. This supplemental information can then be used by the server to complete a client's request for content stored at a particular location. For example, the supplemental information may be used to provide a customized response, or for access control to sensitive data. Preferably, the REDIRECT message of the Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) or the Wireless Session Protocol (WSP) is used to request the supplemental information, encoding a comma-separated list of attribute names in a request header for the desired supplemental information. This solution is designed to be backward-compatible.

Abstract: Methods and devices for determining a geographic location of an electronic device are introduced. A range of radio frequencies at the electronic device's location is scanned by a radio receiver ( 11 ). Characteristics (CH) of a geographically bound transmission system ( 3 ) within said scanned frequencies are identified by a control unit ( 21 ). A matching unit ( 5 ) matches these characteristics (CH) with stored characteristics (SCH) of geographically bound transmission systems of different geographical areas. The geographic location (LD) of said electronic device ( 1 ) is dependent on a result of said matching process.
