Abstract: PURPOSE: To efficiently store multimedia data by making an actuator follow up a spiral track on a disk surface. CONSTITUTION: An actuator assembly 205 of a magnetic disk drive storage unit 102 is arranged on one side of a rotary disk 201 and driven by an electromagnetic motor 207 to rotate on a shaft 206, thereby positioning a transducer head 209. A spiral data track 310 on the reverse surface of the disk 201 has a sequence of data blocks spirally from the outer edge to the inner edge of the disk 201, and a data track 311, on the other hand, has a sequence of data block spirally from the inner edge to the outer edge of the disk 201. The tracks 310 and 311 have the data blocks and servo sectors to be interleaved to enable a drive to recognize the track positions and follow up the centers of the tracks.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To enable a head floating quantity to be measured digitally by forming and storing a spacing signal for indicating the quantity in response to a signal corresponding to the higher harmonic of the floating quantity signal read out from a disk surface. CONSTITUTION: An electronic circuit 24 for reading data channel 20 forms higher harmonic signals corresponding to the higher harmonics of a floating quantity signal that is read out from a disk surface in response to the rotation of the rigid disk 15, transmitting it to the clearance and slip program part 33 of a servo processor 30 using a signal path 56. The clearance and slip program part 33 forms a spacing signal indicating the floating quantity of a head 13 at plural positions on the disk 15 face in response to the higher harmonic signal, storing it in the predicted fracture analysis(PFA) storing part 45 of a file microprocessor 40. Accordingly, it is possible that the floating quantity of the head 13 since the manufacture is digitally measured, held as history and referred to selectively.
