    Abstract: PURPOSE: To obtain a capacitor discharge retracting system for a compact disk drive by using a voltage obtained by boosting a power source voltage for making an actuator retracting circuit using a capacitor at a high level. CONSTITUTION: The voice coil motor 21 of an actuator is controlled by an actuator driving circuit including a control circuit 23 and transistors Q1 to Q4. While the power source of the disk drive is normally thrown a pair of transistors Q1, Q4 or Q2 an Q3 are individually turned on to be driven in the direction of a head arm assembly or another direction corresponding to how large the current is and the direction of the current flowing through a voice coil 20. When the supply of a power source voltage +Vcc is interrupted, the driving circuit including the transistors Q1 to Q4 is nonoperable, the retract enable signal of a line 35 starts the retracting circuit to supply power for the voice coil 20 through lines 37 and 38 and a converter head is retracted and unloaded by the voice coil 20.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To store predefined information without occupying a disk space, and to detect an error by storing the predefined information in a direct access storage device together with an error correcting code. SOLUTION: A disk file 10 is composed of a disk device and an interface controller 14. The disk device 12 contains the stacks 16 of disks 18 with disk surfaces 20. The disks 18 are rotated simultaneously by unified spindle motors 26, and data information is read or written by corresponding conversion heads 28. An error-correcting code syndrome generator is installed between a disk controller and a buffer controller, and the data bytes of a specific number of error correcting codes are added to the tail of a customer data block. Customer data and the error correcting codes are read, and error detection and a correction function are executed, thus storing specific information without occupying a disk space, then detecting errors.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To obtain an excellent track follow-up error correction signal without a need for a long burst by identifying a servo burst with a maximal amplitude in amplitude information from an amplitude demodulation circuit, and also identifying a servo burst nearest to a center line of a reading data sensor from a phase of a maximal amplitude burst from a phase demodulation circuit. CONSTITUTION: This device is used for a purpose that amplitude information from an amplitude demodulation circuit 52 identifies a servo burst with a maximal amplitude. And, this method is used for identifying which servo burst is the nearest to a center line of a reading data sensor, from the phase of the maximum amplitude servo burst from a phase modulation circuit 50. At the same time, the circuit 52 provides fine position information which is only a track follow-up error, by comparing relative servo burst amplitudes. Thus, same amplitude information as that in a typical amplitude burst system is obtained from the circuit 52 during track follow up, and an excellent correction signal is obtained for track follow-up error.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To improve the demodulation of the digital servo signal of a disk file by identifying a servo burst timing window by a PRML data channel, accumulating plural detected digital samples, and processing it by a servo processor. CONSTITUTION: A signal from an R/W head is amplified by a preamplifier 52, and a read back signal including servo information and the data is extracted by a PRML channel 54, and transmitted to a hard disk controller(HC) 56. The HC 56, a bus IF 58 connected with a host adapter, and an IF processor 60 connected with the bus IF 58 are connected with each other, and an IF processor function is executed by the processor 60. Also, a servo processor 62 operates servo control by supplying servo positioning and motor control signals to VCM and spindle drivers 64 and 66. Moreover, a servo logic 68 inputs phase information to the processor 62 by information from the channel 54. Thus, the demodulation of a digital servo signal can be improved.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To prevent stress and strain by installing a file cover which includes a buffer fitting means. CONSTITUTION: Plural disk stacks 15 are fitted to a spindle assembly 44 to allow their simultaneous rotation. Each magnetic transducer is adapted to its related disk data face so as to allow its transfer from one track position to another one and, supported by the actuator, the horizontal and vertical impact loads are controlled by a buffer fitting means. The disk 16 and the actuator are enclosed by cover parts 72, 73. Thus by covering the head disk assembly, introduction of stresses and strains are suppressed and writing and reading without errors are possible.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent an error of a read position by generating a positioning error correcting code(ECC) checking byte by an ECC generator, loading a servo address into the ECC generator in advance and Judging the write position. SOLUTION: The servo address is written in a servo burst, and is loaded into the ECC generator, so that the write positioning ECC checking byte is generated and stored. Subsequently, a subservo address is written in the servo burst, and is read during track seeking to position a converter head. At the time of writing data, the servo address and the positioning ECC checking byte are read, and the write position is judged by the ECC generator and entered together with a logical block address(LBA). By loading the servo address and the LBA into the ECC generator in advance at the read time, whether the write position is correct or not is judged, and a data error is detected, and simultaneously the read operation in a wrong position is prevented.
