Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To manage the existence of an information processing system by forming the installation message of identifier data of an extension unit and an information processing system and transmitting the installation message to a management server. SOLUTION: When note PC 100 being an information processing system is installed in an extension unit 200, sub-CPU 40 reads UUID (identifier data) of note PC 100 from EEPROM 39 and writes UUID into EEPROM 916 via SM buses 38 and 238. Dock CPU 211 writes UUID of the extension unit 200 held in EEPROM 215 into AOL-ASIC (IC for special purpose) 914, issues a prescribed message transmission processing command to AOL-ASIC 914 via the SM bus 238, forms the installation message and transmits it to a management server via a network 400.
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a superior information processing apparatus, along with a method of controlling the same, capable of smoothly transferring transfer data such as an execution result of an application or an HTML (HyperText Markup Language) file acquired from a Web server according to TCP/IP (Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol) protocol to an external device (PDA) by use of infrared communication function. SOLUTION: The information processing apparatus periodically accesses a predetermined server (e.g., the Web server) on a network to acquire a desired file (e.g., the HTML file). This file acquisition operation is performed regardless of the operation of an infrared transmitting and receiving unit. In other words, the information processing apparatus is trying to regularly cache the latest download data for the PDA. As a result, the PDA as the external device can be connected to the information processing apparatus only by being set to an infrared communication mode and being held over an area where the information processing apparatus can find a station to receive the latest data. Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a general method of making easily actualizable the switching of an OS to be booted on a computer. SOLUTION: While a 1st OS is running on a computer, information for booting a 2nd OS is downloaded (130) by browsing homepages or receiving electronic mail, a device driver is actuated after password matching, and a request to hook an OS end is made (134 to 138). The device driver performs a process for hooking the OS end at the request and after the downloaded boot image file, etc., is loaded to a main memory, the process is interrupted (144 to 148). After the OS ends, the process of the device driver is restarted to change the mode of a processor (150, 152) and then a batch program is started. Consequently, the 2nd OS is booted with the boot image file loaded to the main memory after various preprocesses are completed.
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an information processing system for displaying the history of wakeup-on-LAN (WOL) operation to the information processing system of a WOL function. SOLUTION: This system has a means 610 for generating a prescribed signal 660 in the case of receiving a prescribed packet through a network to a connection unit for computer connectable to a network and a means 650 for displaying the reception of the prescribed packet in response to the prescribed signal 660. Then the user of a computer can recognize the execution of WOL or trial of execution is performed without starting any application for reporting the execution of WOL on the computer or even without connecting the computer to the connection unit.
Abstract:
An information processing apparatus enables the smooth transfer of data, such as processed results obtained from execution of an application program, an HTML file acquired from a Web server in accordance with the TCP/IP protocol or the like, to an external device (PDA) (60) by using an infrared communication function. The apparatus periodically accesses a predetermined server machine (e.g., a Web server) to acquire a desired file (e.g., an HTML file). This file acquisition operation is carried out without the involvement of operations of an infrared transceiver. The information processing apparatus attempts to continually perform caching of the most recent download data. As a result, when the PDA (60) as an external device is set into an infrared communication mode and a user simply holds the PDA to a station discoverable region of the information processing apparatus, a connection between them is established, thereby enabling the PDA to receive the most recent data.
