Abstract: An information processing apparatus enables the smooth transfer of data, such as processed results obtained from execution of an application program, an HTML file acquired from a Web server in accordance with the TCP/IP protocol or the like, to an external device (PDA) (60) by using an infrared communication function. The apparatus periodically accesses a predetermined server machine (e.g., a Web server) to acquire a desired file (e.g., an HTML file). This file acquisition operation is carried out without the involvement of operations of an infrared transceiver. The information processing apparatus attempts to continually perform caching of the most recent download data. As a result, when the PDA (60) as an external device is set into an infrared communication mode and a user simply holds the PDA to a station discoverable region of the information processing apparatus, a connection between them is established, thereby enabling the PDA to receive the most recent data.

Abstract: A computer system is provided which allows adapters to be inserted or removed while keeping the system operational, and which can automatically reconfigure the system according to such insertion or removal. When an adapter is inserted, an adapter detection mechanism informs a resource manager of the insertion of the adapter with an interrupt or the like. The resource manager electrically and mechanically connects the adapter immediately after its insertion, and reads the attribute information of the adapter from a memory on the adapter to perform the necessary setup, inclusion of the device driver necessary for the system, and assignment of memory and the like, thus enabling the adapter. When a user wants to remove an adapter, he or she issues an adapter removal request from an adapter removal button, or from a program to the resource manager. This request is transmitted to the resource manager, which checks the running state of the adapter, and, if it can be removed, electrically and then mechanically disconnects it so that it can be removed. The user of the computer system removes the adapter after it is disconnected.

Abstract: A method for controlling communication in a Mobile Integrated Voice and Dat (IVD) system, the system having a plurality of Cell Stations (CS's) interconnected through communication networks including a LAN, A PBX telephone network and Personal Stations (PS's). A first CS registers the LAN identifier of a first PS in accordance with the first PS that exists within its own radio cell, and assigns a PBX telephone number to the first PS. Subsequently, a calling information which includes a LAN identifier for the second PS and the PBX telephone number assigned to the first PS is broadcast via a LAN. Thereafter, the second CS which registers the LAN identifier of the second PS receives the calling information via a LAN and transfers the information of the second mobile station via radio link. The second PS then dials the PBX telephone number included in the calling information. Thus, the link between the first PS and the second PS is connected when the first PS receives the calling.

Abstract: A mobile station which wants to start communication with a base station transmits a communication slot assignment request to the base station at a sufficiently low transmission speed at which no transversal filter is required. The base station assigns a communication slot and transmits the information regarding the communication slot assignment to the mobile station at a sufficiently low transmission speed at which no transversal filter is required. Upon receiving the information, the mobile station transmits a training sequence to the base station at a high speed by using the assigned communication slot. The base station calculates the optimum tap coefficient in a transversal filter from the training sequence held by the base station itself and from the actually received signals by means of an adaptive equalizing mechanism and transmits the optimum tap coefficient to the mobile station at a sufficiently low transmission speed at which no transversal filter is required. The base station sets the tap coefficient in the transversal filter and starts high-speed communication with the base station.

Abstract: In order to enable the reception of signals on a moving personal station PS within an IVD (Integrated Voice and Data) system network which comprises the available PBX and LAN, a first all station CS registers the LAN identifier of a first PS in accordance with the first PS that is present within its own radio cell, and assigns a PBX telephone number to the first PS. Subsequently, a calling information which includes a LAN identifier for a second PS and the PBX telephone number assigned to the first PS is broadcast via a LAN. Thereafter, a second CS which registers the LAN identifier of the second PS receives the calling information via a LAN and transfers the information of the second mobile station via radio link. The second PS then dials the PBX telephone number included in the calling information. Thus, the link between the first PS and the second PS is connected when the first PS receives the calling.
