    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To thin a disk storage device and manufacture it easily. SOLUTION: Sliders 8, in which signal conversion heads are installed at one ends of suspensions 10, are mounted for setting up the signal conversion heads to an actuator 9 positioned at the desired place of the recording surface of a disk through the suspensions 10, and means 10e fitted to the actuator 9 are provided on the same side as the side, where signal conversion heads at the other ends of the suspensions 10 are installed. Accordingly, a disk storage device can be thinned without decreasing the strength of the suspension mounting section of the actuator. A plurality of the suspensions can be set up to the actuator at a time.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: To achieve downsizing and easy manufacturing of a disk device by folding a flexible printed circuit into halves and demarcating the both ends to a first connector provided on a housing wall. CONSTITUTION: A writing signal to a recording surface of a magnetic disk 6, or a reading signal from a recording surface on the disk 6, and electric power to actuator 8 are transmitted from an electronic circuit card 3 attached on the back of the housing 2 or transmitted to the card 3 via two rows of pins 9b planted on a substrate 4 via an insulator 9a in order to electrically communicate the inside and outside of the housing 2 with each other. The two rows of pins terminals 9b planted on this substrate 4 constitutes a first connector 9. A flexible printed circuit 11 is connected with the rows of pin terminals 9b projecting inside the housing 2. A connector 10 attached to the card 3 is connected with the terminal rows 9b projecting outside of the housing 2.

    Abstract: The present invention provides a disk apparatus and manufacturing method thereof, the disk apparatus being of the type in which a head for reading or writing on a disk is supported on a carriage for positioning relative to said disk by a coil attached to said carriage and energisable by magnetic flux generated from a magnet, characterised in that: the disk, head, carriage and coil are arranged in an enclosure and said magnet is positioned externally to said enclosure. This apparatus isolates the magnet of a voice coil motor (VCM) from the disk and head, without requiring independent parts to be provided separately. The invention is also applicable to a disk apparatus having a head actuator using a rotary VCM.

    Abstract: JA9-90-008 DISK APPARATUS AND MANUFACTURING METHOD THEREOF Particulate contamination on a disk or a head can be prevented by locating a magnet of a voice coil motor (VCM) in the outside of an enclosure in which the disk and the head are contained. If the magnet is located in the enclosure, the magnet attracts particles in the air and then the particulate contamination on the disk or the head may occur. In accordance with the invention, an aperture is provided on the enclosure in which the disk, the head and a coil of the VCM for moving the head with respect to the disk are contained. The position of the aperture corresponds to the position of the coil contained in the aperture. A non magnetic sheet such as a Polyester sheet is provided on the enclosure for covering the aperture. The magnet is positioned in the outside of the enclosure so that the magnet is confronted with the non-magnetic sheet.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a ramp structure of a data storage device with which manufacture is facilitated and position shift in a load/unload ramp because of thermal expansion is made to be fewer as a whole. SOLUTION: The ramp structure has a first rigid supporting structure 52, a second rigid supporting structure 76 separated from the first rigid supporting structure, a bridge part 78 connecting the first rigid supporting structure with the second rigid supporting structure and a ramp unit 50 attached to the first rigid supporting structure. The rigid supporting structure has coefficient of thermal expansion that is selected so that space between a ramp and a disk is constant during change of temperature. The ramp unit 50 having accurate and stable seize can be formed by subjecting parts of the first rigid supporting structure 52 and the second rigid supporting structure sleeve 76 to insert molding by being inserted in a metallic mold for injection molding.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hard disk drive(HDD) capable of preventing the damage on the part where a connector pin as an outer interface and a connector are mounted and to provide a mechanism which becomes a forcible guide at the time of mounting the hard disk drive(HDD). SOLUTION: There are some cases where a male connector 20 on the hard disk drive(HDD) 10 side is erroneously inserted into a female connector 60. For instance, the case where the former is inserted into the latter in the direction as shown by the arrow 1 can be cited. Therein, by disposing a cover 80 for the female connector, it is made unable to insert the male connector 20 into the female connector 60 unless the HDD 10 is moved along an insertion guiding surface 90. Also the cover 80 for the female connector is realized as a plate-shaped protruding part 82 which leaves a prescribed distance from a pin 22 of the male connector 20. The plate-shaped protruding part 82 is endowed with a satisfactory function when the protruding part 82 is disposed within the covering range so as to include at least an end part 68 of the female connector 60 with respect to both end parts 68 of the female connector 60.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable center lines of respective members to be aligned correctly by allowing a first reference point to have a V-shaped edge and arranging the first reference point at a position adjacent to a dimple for making an assembly perform a gimbal type movement, arranging a second reference point adjacently to the spacer mounted to the pivotal center of an arm member and arranging a third reference point adjacently to the front end of the arm member. SOLUTION: A head supporting arm 15 is positioned with respect to a rotary data recording disk 21 and is inclined from a line vertical to a center line 25 by an angle θ in order to make the distance between the center of an opening 19 and the center of the disk 21 minimum. Slots of an arm member and the opening 19 are used in order to align respective center lines of the arm member, a suspension load arm beam and an integration type wiring plate. Long thin slots 30 and 33 are used as reference points aligning center lines of the head supporting arm 15 and the dimple 50 of the suspension load beam and the center line of a head/slider assembly 20.
