Abstract: The apparatus calculates the intensity P of picture points (pels) in a transformed image (filtered, enlarged, reduced) from the equation … … where Ii are the intensities of each of m surrounding pels (reference window) in the original image and alpha i the associated weight factors. To allow flexible changes of the conversion, a loadable table (3) is provided which contains, for selected pels in the transformed image (e.g. along a scanning line), the associated weight factors of the pels in the reference window as well as the displacement by which the reference window has to be shifted to calculate the next transformed image pel.

Abstract: METHOD FOR CONVERTING THE NUMBER OF BITS OF INPUT BIT STREAM The number of bits in an input bit stream representing a visual image is reduced or increased to a selected number in response to a given conversion ratio by determining the number of data bits to be inserted to or deleted from said input bit stream in accordance with said given conversion ratio to partition said input bit stream into plural bit groups, the number of which is equal to said number of data bits to be inserted or deleted, by detecting that adjacent two bits in said bit group have the same value, and by inserting one bit to said adjacent two bits or deleting one bit from said adjacent two bits in response to said detection.

Abstract: In a disk drive actuator head stack assembly, magnetic transducers including magnetoresistive (MR) read heads are connected to a current source and configured to provide an MR sensor current to each MR head wherein the direction of current flow for the MR sensor current in each MR head is the same relative to the actuator for all of the MR heads in the actuator head stack. This configuration allows all of the MR heads in the head stack assembly to initialized simultaneously by applying a homogeneous magnetic field to the head stack assembly, thus providing the capability of initializing the MR heads at the actuator or disk drive level rather than requiring that the MR heads be initialized individually.

Abstract: An image scaling method and apparatus partitions each line of image pel (print element) indicating bits into a number of bit groups equal to the number of bits to be added or deleted from the line to achieve a desired scaling. In each of the bit groups, one pel is added for enlargement or one pel is deleted for reduction. The pel addition or deletion occurs at pairs of like-pel indicating bits. If any bit groups has no pairs of like-pel indicating bits, a pel indicating bit is added for enlargement or deleting for reduction in an arbitrary location in the bit group.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To correct the position of a peak located at a predetermined position of a read-out signal while suppressing deterioration in S/N ratio. CONSTITUTION: A comparator 36 determines the shifting direction of a peak located in the center with respect to the original position thereof from threshold levels corresponding to the magnitude of three continuous peaks of an RBS detected by a circuit 26 according to the relationship of magnitude between |AMP-1 -AMP0 | and |AMP0 -AMP1 | assuming the magnitude of three peaks are AMP-1 , AMP0 and AMP1 and outputs a pulse indicative of the shifting direction to an FIFO 38. A delay circuit 44 outputs a plurality of pulses being shifted by an amount corresponding to the threshold level based on the input timing of a PDS. An MUX 40 selects the output pulse from the delay circuit 44 based on the pulse indicative of the shifting direction from the FIFO 38 and |AMP-1 -AMP1 | detected by an amplitude difference detection circuit 100.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the range of fluctuations of feedback signals to a hard disk device by providing first and second data recording surfaces on a data recording disk and making the track pitch between adjacent data recording tracks of the first recording surface and the track pitch between adjacent data tracks of the second recording surface different. SOLUTION: A head #1 moves by a distance D=(Hw+Gw)/2 from a position P4 to a position P5 to write servo patterns A5 and B5 by respectively overlapping them. The head #1 moves by the distance D=(Hw+Gw)/2 toward the most outside position of the data recording surface to write new servo patterns at respective positions. The counter being in a hard disk control circuit or an MPU counts the number of movings of the distance D=(Hw+Gw)/2 of the head #1 in the radial direction to store it in a memory and, thus, the number of servo tracks written on the recording surface can be known.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the performance by forming a data track in a spiral state with the use of the servo area arranged in the peripheral direction of a disk at every specified space and unnecessitating the seek operation for the movement between tracks in the reading/writing operation for continued data. SOLUTION: The constitution is made in such a manner that the target value of a PES(position error signal) obtained from servo signals which are buried on the track with the specified spaces, is successively changed for realizing the spiral track by reading the PES which is the conventional servo information. In the case of the disk device performing the positional control with the PES obtained from each servo area in the disk which is provided with the servo area of 60 pieces per one round of the disk, when the values available for the PES as the information on each position in the width direction of one track are taken as 256 kinds, the positional control of the head is executed by the value set by succesively shifting the target value of PES for every 256/60 track position in each of 60 servo positions. By such a positional control, the head is moved in accordance with the target PES values different for every servo area, thereby, the spiral track is followed up.
