Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a high-quality polyester elastomer within a short time, by reacting a polytetramethylene terephthalate forming component with a polyalkylene glycol by using a soluble niobium compound as a catalyst. CONSTITUTION:A polyester elastomer is obtained without forming any by- products such as tetrahydrofuran by reacting a polytetramethylene terephthalate forming component (A) (e.g., terephthalic acid and 1,4-tetramethylene glycol) which constitutes hard segments with a polyalkylene glycol (B) (e.g., polytetramethylene glycol) which constitutes soft segments in the presence of a soluble niobium compound (C) as a catalyst. Examples of component C include niobic acid and sodium niobate, and its amount of use is 0.0001-0.1wt.% (in terms of niobium metal) based on the polymer formed.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a composite resin compsn. giving electrically conductive moldings which are homogeneous and stable, by blending a crimped metallic fiber with a resin. CONSTITUTION:An electrically conductive resin compsn. is obtd. by blending a crimped metallic fiber with a resin. The number of crimps is 3-200 pitches, pref. 10-100 pitches per 25mm of an apparent fiber length by its own weight. The magnitude of crimp (the crimp amplitude) is 0.05-4mm, pref. 0.1-2mm. Examples of the metallic fibers are those mainly composed of aluminum, iron, copper, cobalt, titanium or silver and also include amorphous metallic fibers. Examples of thermoplastic resins are polyolefin, polyamide, polystyrene and polyester. Examples of thermosetting resins are phenolic and epoxy resins. Examples of elastomers are polyurethane and silicone resin elastomers.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide the titled compsn. which has excellent electrical conductivity and is suitable for use as an electromagnetic wave shielding material, containing an annealed short aluminum fiber. CONSTITUTION:A short aluminum fiber having a fiber diameter of 150mu or below and a fiber length of 0.3-5mm. prepd. by a melt spinning method, a drawing method or a cutting method, is heated at 340-410 deg.C for one hr or longer and then cooled by air or in an oven to thereby obtain an annealed short aluminum fiber. 5-50wt% said fiber is blended with a thermoplastic resin selected from among polyester, polyamide, polyolefin, polyphenylene oxide and ABS resin and the mixture is uniformly kneaded.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To provide the titled compsn. which has excellent electrical conductivity and mechanical properties and gives moldings having excellent surface smoothness, by blending a metallic fiber and an ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymer with a polyester fiber.
CONSTITUTION: An electrically conductive polyester resin compsn. is obtd. by blending 5W200pts.wt. metallic fiber (e.g. aluminum, brass or stainless steel fiber having a fiber diameter of 5W150μ and a fiber length of 0.5W15mm) and 2W 20pts.wt. ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymer with 100pts.wt. polyester resin such as polyethylene terephthalate. When the metallic fiber is incorporated as an electrically conductive filler, excellent electrical conductivity can be imparted by the use of a relatively small quantity of the metallic fiber and various physical properties are not so much lowered, but moldings have disadvantages in that lowering in strength at a weldline is remarkable, impact resistance is lowered and surface smoothness becomes poor. by blending the ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymer, the above disadvantages can be eliminated and there can be obtd. a compsn. which has excellent electrical conductivity and mechanical properties and gives moldings having excellent surface smoothness.
