    Abstract: PURPOSE:To produce the subject polymer excellent in packability without using a remarkably irritating catalyst such as a tert-amine by using a specified tert- amino alcohol in combination with a specified carboxylic acid as the polyol components. CONSTITUTION:A tert-amino alcohol of the formula (R1 is a 2 to 24C chain alkylene, or arylene, etc.; R2 is a 1 to 24C chain alkyl, or aryl, etc.; n is average polymerization degree and 1 to 50) is blended with a carboxylic acid (preferably formic acid) of formula R3COOH (R3 is H, or a 1 to 25C chain alcohol, etc.) in a molar ratio of (the former/the latter) = (1/0.01) to (1/37.5). The resultant mixture is used as a polyol component and the polyol component is reacted with a polyisocyanate component. The tert-amino alcohol of the formula is obtained recommendably by reacting a diol such as 1,3-butanediol with a primary amine such as dimethylamine with stirring in the presence of a catalyst having a composition of copper-Ni-VIII group platinum family element, etc., at 150 to 250 deg.C while removing generated water out of the system.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the subject foam excellent in heat insulating performance and low-temperature dimensional stability by using a specific tertiary amino- alcohol with a compound such as a polyfunctional alcohol having >=1000 hydroxyl value in combination as a polyol component. CONSTITUTION:A rigid polyurethane foam is obtained by reacting (A) a polyisocyanate component with (B) a polyol component using (i) one or more tertiary amino-alcohols expressed by the formula [R1 is 2-24C alicyclic, alkylene alkylene, cycloalkylene, arylene, aralkylene or (CH2CH2O)p-(CH2CH2)q [(p) is O or a positive number; (q) is a positive number]; R2 is 1-24C alkyl, aryl or aralkyl; n is a positive number of 1-50) and (ii) one or more compounds selected from polyfunctional alcohols having 1000 hydroxyl value, aliphatic amines and aromatic amines in combination in the presence of a foaming agent.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a catalyst which is odorless, can be easily handled and can give a polyurethane having good air permeability and compression set by using a specified compound having a specified dimethylamino structure. CONSTITUTION:A catalyst for producing a polyurethane comprising a compound of the formula (wherein n is 1-3; R1 is H or CH3; and R2 is an isocyanate residue). Although a morpholine catalyst such as N-methylmorpholine is conventionally used as a catalyst for producing a polyurethane, it is difficult to work because of its low b.p. and strong irritating odor. Further, the obtained polyurethane product emits a strong irritating odor. Although an organotin compound which is a commonly used organometallic compound is lowly odorous, it is a resinification catalyst having a strong catalytic activity and therefore cannot be used alone. Because the compound of the above formula which is a reaction product of dimethylaminopolyalkanolamine with an isocyanate has a moderate catalystic activity, is odorless and gives a foam which has excellent properties, it is suitable as a catalyst for producing polyurethane.
