Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a production method of a magnetic recording medium having excellent surface quality by eliminating the loss of a coating liquid in a mixing zone and applying the coating liquid uniformly on a supporting carrier body. CONSTITUTION:The coating liquid is prepared by force-feeding and mixing a magnetic coating material and a hardening agent. The coating liquid thus prepared is supplied and applied to a carrier to support a magnetic component to produce a magnetic recording medium. In the mixing passage 2 for the magnetic coating material and the hardening agent, at least two rotary blades 3, 4 are attached to one rotating shaft 5 so that a forward rotation liq. flow (a) is formed in the passage 2 along the supplying direction of the liquid by the upstream side rotary blade 3, and backward rotation liq. flow (b) is formed in the opposite direction to the supplying direction by the downstream side rotary blade 4.

CONSTITUTION:A shear generation device 10 has a shear generation vessel 13 provided with a coating liquid inlet pass 11 and an outlet pass 12. A rotating shaft 14 is vertically placed and supported in the central part of the vessel 13 and a blind cylindrical rotor 15 is fixed to the shaft 14. And in the shear generation device 10, an annular fixed part 16 fixed and arranged in an annular void part between the inner surface of the rotor 15 and the rotating shaft 14 is vertically installed inside the vessel 13. Then plural shear generation gaps, such as a shear generation gap 18A between the end surface of the fixed part 16 and the inner end surface of the rotor 15, a shear generation gap 18B between the outer diameter part of the fixed part 16 and the inner diameter part of the rotor 15, a shear generation gap 18C between the inner diameter of the vessel 13 and the outer diameter part of the rotor 15 and a shear generation gap 18D between the inner end surface of the vessel 13 and the outer end surface of the rotor 15 are formed.

SOLUTION: There is provided an intermittent laying method in which a laying layer 14 having a flowing substance 13 laid thereon is intermittently formed in a moving direction X at a surface of a sheet-like member 12 moving in one direction. A part of a sheet-like member 12 corresponding to a non-laid segment 15 between the laid segments at an upstream side of a coating head 16 where the flowing substance 13 is laid at the sheet-like member 12 is folded into a rear surface side of the sheet-like member 12, a continuous laid surface 30 is formed at a front surface side, the flowing substance 13 is supplied continuously to form the laying layer 14, thereafter non-laying segment 15 is returned back to the same surface as that of the laid surface 30 at a downstream side of the coating had 16, and the non-laying segment 15 is intermittently present between the laid layers 14 laid continuously.

The kneading energy is defined by [(P-Po)×N/Nmax]/F wherein P is the power (KW) in operating state; N is shear rate (sec ); Po is the power (KW) in unloaded state; Nmax is the maximum shear rate (sec ) and F is the treating amount (kg/hr)].

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To stabilize and improve the quality of the final product of a magnetic recording medium dispersed and added evenly with a hardener by opening the outflow port of a hardener supplying pipe in the central part of the coating material supplying pipe of an apparatus for producing the magnetic recording medium. SOLUTION: The apparatus 10 for producing the magnetic recording medium has an extrusion type coating applicator 11 and applies a magnetic layer on a continuously traveling base 1 by using a die head 12 of this coating applicator 11. An inline hardener addition system is adopted for the apparatus 10 for production. The hardener forcibly fed to the hardener supplying pipe 32 from a hardener tank 33 by a pump 31 is added inline to a magnetic coating material forcibly fed to the magnetic coating material supplying pipe 22 from a magnetic coating material tank 23 by a pump 21. After both are stirred and mixed by a mixer 41, the mixture is supplied to the die head 12 of the extrusion type coating applicator 11. The die head 12 continuously extrudes the magnetic coating material added the hardener and applies the magnetic coating material on the base 1, thereby forming the coating film uniform in the transverse direction of the base 1.
