Provided is an apparatus and method for describing three-dimensional image data, an apparatus and method for retrieving three-dimensional image data, and a computer-readable recording media for recording the programs. An object of the present invention is to provide an apparatus and method for describing three-dimensional image data, and a computer-readable recording-medium that implements the method. Another object of the present invention is to provide an apparatus and method for retrieving three-dimensional image data suitable for various application areas and display apparatuses, and a computer-readable recording-medium that implements the method. The image description apparatus includes: a descriptor database for storing descriptors describing characteristics of the three-dimensional image data; a descriptor adding unit for reading in a descriptor describing the characteristics of the three-dimensional image data and adding it to the three-dimensional image data; and a registration unit for registering the three-dimensional image data with the descriptor in a three-dimensional image data database.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a stereoscopic/multiview three-dimensional video processing system and its method. In the present invention, stereoscopic/multiview three-dimensional video data having a plurality of images at the same time are coded into a plurality of elementary streams. The plural elementary streams output at the same time are multiplexed according to the user's selected display mode to generate a single elementary stream. After packetization of the single elementary stream continuously generated, information about the stereoscopic/multiview three-dimensional video multiplexing method and the selected display mode information are added to the packet header of the stream. Then the packetized elementary stream is sent to the image reproducer or stored in storage media. The present invention multiplexes the multi-channel elementary streams having the same temporal and spatial information, thereby minimizing the overlapping header information, and performs streaming of data suitable for the user's demand and the user system environments.

Provided is a metadata structure for storing and reproducing stereoscopic data and a method for storing a stereoscopic content file based on the metadata structure. The stereoscopic content file storing method includes storing streams of the stereoscopic contents; and, when the stereoscopic content has more than two elementary streams, storing information for dividing the elementary streams into a main track and a supplementary track.

Provided is a method for providing three-dimensional (3D) contents service based on digital broadcasting. The method includes the steps of: a) extracting Program Association Table (PAT) information on Packet Identification (PID); b) acquiring Program Map Table (PMT) PID from the extracted PAT; c) analyzing version_number and Contents_type_descriptor and dividing typical broadcasting contents and 3D broadcasting contents; d) extracting the PID for each media stream formed for a reference image and a 3D additional information broadcasting service; e) extracting a corresponding media stream in the Transport Stream and transmitting the media stream to a corresponding decoder; and f) recovering an image of the transmitted media stream in the decoder and displaying the media stream.

Provided are a transmitting and receiving system for non-realtime based digital realistic broadcasting, and a method thereof. The transmitting system includes a broadcasting TS generator for generating a 2-D TS for a 2-D image and an auxiliary TS for auxiliary information necessary for realistic broadcasting of the 2-D image, and a transmitter for transmitting the generated auxiliary transport stream before a corresponding broadcasting time and transmitting the generated 2-D transport stream according to a corresponding broadcasting schedule.

Provided are a three-dimensional (3D) stereoscopic digital broadcasting transmitting/receiving apparatus and method using 3D stereoscopic video additional data. The apparatus and method is compatible with a two-dimensional (2D) digital broadcasting system by defining and processing 3D stereoscopic video additional data, such as another 3D video, disparity information, and depth information, as an additional stream added to a 2D video transport stream, which is different from the conventional method that provides a 3D stereoscopic digital broadcasting system by using video of another viewpoint. The 3D stereoscopic digital broadcast transmitting apparatus includes: a video acquiring unit; an audio data acquiring unit, an encoding unit, a program specific information (PSI) generating unit, a packetizing unit, a transport stream (TS) generating unit, a multiplexing unit, and a modulating unit.

A method and apparatus for providing 3D still image service in a specific time interval during audio-visual service of digital broadcast are provided. The method includes receiving a reference image and a 3D supplement image, which construct a 3D still image, through a data channel or a video channel together with a 2D image; restoring the reference image and the 3D supplement image to the 3D still image; and displaying the 3D still image in a specific interval during digital audio-visual broadcast using the 2D image according to display information which includes a play time and a play mode.

The five sensory data synchronizing and transmitting apparatus and method forms packets by describing vibration, and odor and a taste expressed in video/audio based on touch, odor and taste data descriptors and synchronizes the touch/odor/taste packets with video/audio packets on a frame basis; and then, the actual-feeling multimedia data providing system and method demultiplexes the received packets transmitted from the five sensory data synchronizing and transmitting apparatus into video data, audio data, touch data, odor data and taste data and transmits them to corresponding devices to thereby provide a user with an actual-feeling multimedia service.
