Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a hydroperoxide readily, in high selectivity and in high yield, by oxidizing a secondary alkyl group-substituted naphthalene with molecular O2 in a liquid phase by using an indane-based aromatic hydrocarbon and optionally a Pd compound as catalysts. CONSTITUTION:A secondary alkyl group-substituted naphthalene such as 2,6- diisopropylnaphthalene is oxidized with molecular O2 in a liquid phase in the presence of =0.5ppm calculated as metal based on the secondary alkyl group-substituted naphthalene of a soluble Pd compound such as 1% aqueous solution of sulfuric acid of PdCl2 as catalysts by adding azobiscyclohexanecarbonitrile as an initiator and by adjusting the reaction mixture to pH 12 with NaOH to give a hydroperoxide and/or a carbinol.

PREPARATION:The compound of formula can be produced e.g. by dimerizing 2,6-dihydroxynaphthalene in the presence of a peroxide and an acid.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound useful as a raw material for synthetic resins, etc., in high selectivity and yield, by oxidizing an aromatic hydrocarbon having secondary alkyl substituent groups in the liquid phase with molecular oxygen in the presence of a specific catalyst and cooxidation solvent. CONSTITUTION:An aromatic hydrocarbon having 2 or more secondary alkyl substituent groups (hereinafter abbreviated to A) (e.g. 1,4-diisopropylbenzene) is oxidized in the liquid phase with molecular oxygen in the presence of an amine based compound hydrobromide (e.g. pyridine hydrobromide) as a catalyst and an aromatic hydrocarbon having one secondary alkyl substituent group as a cooxidation solvent (hereinafter abbreviated to B) (e.g. cumene or beta- isopropylnaphthalene) to provide a hydroperoxide. The conversion rate of the A is remarkably improved by the above-mentioned method and yield is improved without lowering selectivity of the A for the hydroperoxide.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To produce the titled compound useful as a synthetic intermediate for agricultural chemicals, pharmaceuticals, explosives, dyes, rubber amine having H atom on the amino group with a primary or secondary alcohol in the presence of a catalyst containing transition metal oxide at a specific temperature. CONSTITUTION:The objective compound can be produced by reacting an aromatic amine having at least one H atom on the amino group (e.g. aniline, o- alkylaniline, etc.) with a primary or secondary alcohol (e.g. methanol, isopropanol, etc.) in the presence of a catalyst containing transition metal oxide at 290-340 deg.C. The catalyst is produced by calcining a substance composed mainly of a transition metal compound (e.g. iron oxide, manganese oxide, etc.) at 400-850 deg.C.
