    Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide a new quinone compound stable against heat, not having sublimating property and an irritating smell, and useful as a functional chemical. CONSTITUTION:A quinone compound of formula I [A, B are hydrocarbon group, R -CO, R -O-CO, R R N-CO, R -SO2, R R R Si (R to R are H, hydrocarbon group). The compound of formula I is produced by thermally dimerizing 1,2- naphthoquinone into dinaphthyldiquinhydrone in the presence of an acid, and subsequently reacting the produced compound with a reagent containing a suitable nucleating agent such as a compound of formula II [X is C, SO; Y is hydrocarbon group, OR, NRR (R is hydrocarbon group)] (e.g. tosyl chloride), a compound of formula III (e.g. acetic anhydride), a compound of formula IV (e.g. diphenyl carbonate), etc. The compound of formula I is useful as a color- developing agent, an intermediate for dyestuffs, pigments, medicines, agricultural chemicals, rubber chemicals, etc., an oxidizing agent, etc.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide a color forming recording material having high absorption within the range from a visible region to a near infrared region and having a high light resistance by providing a recording layer containing a azo compd. represented by a specific general formula and an acidic substance on a support. CONSTITUTION:A predetermined amt. of an azo compd. represented by formula I (wherein X is H, an amino group, an alkyl group or an acyl group, Y is H, halogen, an alkyl group or an aryl group, m is a natural number of 4 or less and A and B are H, an alkyl group or an aralkyl group) and a predetermined amt. of an acidic substance are mixed. The obtained mixture is compounded with an aqueous soln. of a binder such as polyvinyl alcohol and ground to prepare a coating soln. This coating soln. is applied to a support such as fine paper and dried to form a recording layer, thus obtaining a color forming recording material. As a concrete example of the azo compd., there is 4-aminoazobenzene or 4-(N-methylamino)azobenzene and, as examples of the acidic substance, there are phenol, naphthol, acid clay, kaolin and the like.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a p-phenylenediamine at one stage in high yield by reacting a phenylenediamine derivative with a 4-hydroxydiphenylamine derivative in the presence of specific titanium compound or a zirconium compound. CONSTITUTION:A compound of formula I (X to X are H, alkyl, acyl or arylsulfonyl; X is alkyl, alkoxy, halogen, dialkylamino, acylamine, etc.; 1 is 0-4)(e.g. p-phenylenediamine) is reacted with a compound of formula II (X is H or alkyl); X and X are alkyl, alkoxy, halogen, dialkylamino, etc.; (m) is 0-4; (n) is 0-5)(e.g. 4-hydroxydiphenylamine) in the presence of an alkoxy, aryloxy or halogen-containing titanium compound or zirconium compound (e.g. tetraisopropoxytitanium) to give a pphenylenediamine derivative of formula III [e.g. N-(4-aminophenyl)-N'-phenyl-p-phenylenediamine].

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the color developing recording material capable of developing practicable sufficiently intense color immediately after making color developing operation and enabling readout of information through instruments using lights of all the wavelengths by incorporating a specified diamine derivative and an oxidant, and an organic acid material solid at normal temperature. CONSTITUTION:The recording material contains the oxidant, the organic acidic material solid at normal temperature, and the diamine derivative represented by formula I in which each of A and B is, independently, aryl; X is arylene, and each of R and R is, independently, H, lower alkyl, aryl, or aralkyl. It is preferred that the oxidant is a quinoid type electron receptor, thus permitting practicable sufficiently intense color to be developed and the color developing part to have strong absorption in the wide region from visible to near infra wavelengths, and therefore, readout of information to be made by instruments using all the wavelengths.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound by one-stage reaction advantageously, by reacting carbinol and/or carbinol hydroperoxide in a nitro compound, a phenol and/or a halogenated hydrocarbon in the presence of an acid and hydrogen peroxide. CONSTITUTION:A compound shown by the formula (Ar is aryl; R and R are H or hydrocarbon group; m is 0, 1 or 2; n is 1, 2 or 3) in one or more solvents selected from a nitro compound, a phenol and a halogenated hydrocarbon) in the presence of an acid and hydrogen peroxide preferably at 20-80 deg.C to give the titled compound such as resorcin or 2,6-dihydroxynaphthalene from the raw material by one stage reaction selectively and in high yield. A reaction mixture obtained by oxidizing an alkyl aromatic hydrocarbon such as diisopropylbenzene or 2,6-diisopropylnaphthalene with molecular oxygen may be also used as the raw material.
