Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject new compound excellent in compatibility with fluoroalkane-based cooling medium such as 1,1,2-tetrafluoroethane over a wide temperature range, capable of imparting excellent stability and low absorbability to lubricating oils, thus useful for e.g. lubricating oils for the freezing system. SOLUTION: This new compound is expressed by formula I [A is ethylene or isopropylene; R and R are each H, a (substituted) alkyl, (substituted) alkoxyl, halogen or OH; Rf is a 1-25C (partially substituted) fluorocarbon group 0.6-3 in atom number ratio F/C; (l) and (s) are each 1-3; (m) and (n) are each 0-100, (m+n) is not zero], e.g. 6,6'-bis[2-(perfluorobutoxy) ethyloxy]-3,3,3',3'- tetramethyl-1,1'-spirobiindane. The compound of formula I is obtained by reaction of a compound of formula II with a compound of the formula Rf-X (X is Br or I) in the presence of an alkali.

Abstract: PURPOSE: To obtain a polyimide which is essentially thermoplastic and has excellent properties by using a long-chain aromatic diamine composed of four benzene rings, one pyridine nucleus or benzonitrile nucleus bonded to each other through specified organic groups as a monomer component. CONSTITUTION: A hydroxy aromatic amino compound such as 2-(4- aminophenyl)-2-(4'-hydroxyphenyl)propane is condensed with a dihalogenopyridine or a dihalogenobenzonitrile to obtain an aromatic diamino compound represented by formula I (wherein L is O, carbpnyl or isopropylidene; X is a group of formula II or III; and Ar is a 6-27 C aromatic group), An aromatic diamine component based on this compound is reacted with an aromatic tetracarboxylic dianhydride to make a polyamic acid. This acid is imidated thermally or chemically to obtain a polyimide comprising repeating units of formula IV. The new polyimide which is one having a specified structure having a pyridine nucleus or a benzonitrile nucleus is essentially thermoplastic and is an injection-moldable material of excellent processability.

The compsn. is characterized in that the precursor is water-sol. but the photocured resin is water-insol., that the pigment is dispersed in the precursor, and that the pigment is sol. in the photocured rein. Examples of the pigment are compds. of formulae I and II (wherein Dye and Dye are each a color-developing core; X and X are each 0, S, or NH; A is alkylene, a polyether linkage group, etc.; Y is H, alkoxy, etc.; R , R , and R are each 1-10C alkyl; l1, m , n , and p are each 0-10; and q and q are each 1-10).

Abstract: PURPOSE: To prevent the generation of bacteria or fungi on a substrate such as a fiber or a building material by using a salicylic acid resin composition excellent in heat resistance, water resistance, flexibility, oxidation-resistant stability and long term durability and having compatibility with various kinds of substrates. CONSTITUTION: A salicylic acid resin composition of formula I [Z is H, M/i (M is an i-valent metal ((i) is an integer); (n) is 0-100] is used. The compound of formula I is preferably the compound wherein Z is H or wherein M is Zn and (i) is 2. The salicylic acid resin composition of formula I is added to a substrate such as a resin coating, non-woven fabric, fiber, paper or building material especially in an amount of 0.1-2wt.%. The salicylic acid resin composition wherein Z is H is obtained by reacting a salicylic acid (ester) of formula II (R1 is an alkyl) with an aralkyl compound of formula III (X is an alkoxy, OH, a halogen). Various kinds of the substrates to which the antibacterial and antifungal properties are imparted can be used for e.g. wall paper, bathtubs, shower hoses, washing machines, refrigerators or kitchens.
