A multi-layered information recording medium comprising a plurality of recording layers, a user data area for recording user data, provided in at least two of the plurality of recording layers, and a defect list storing area for storing a defect list. When at least one defective area is detected in the user data area, the defect list is used to manage the at least one defective area. The defect list storing area is provided in only one of the plurality recording layers.

An optical disk apparatus performing either one of recording and reproduction of an optical disk in which groove-shaped groove tracks and land tracks present between the groove tracks are alternately connected to each other in a spiral shape, includes: a recording and reproduction unit for recording a signal in at least one continuous groove track and at least one continuous land track, and then reproducing the signal from the groove track and the land track; a detector for detecting a quality of the signal recorded and reproduced by the recording and reproduction unit; a control parameter setting unit for setting a control parameter related to at least one of the recording and the reproduction of the optical disk; and a controller for changing the control parameter set by the control parameter setting unit, repeating the recording and reproduction performed by the recording and reproduction unit and detection performed by the detector every time the control parameter is changed, and determining the control parameter based on the quality of the signal detected by the detector.

An optical disc has a plurality of sectors, where each of the plurality of sectors includes a plurality of frames. A sub information bit value of "0" or "1" is assigned to the plurality of frames constituting a sector, excluding the first and last frames. Edge positions are displaced so that leading/lagging errors appear in accordance with a certain rule when data fields of the frames to which the sub information bit value "1" is assigned are read. Edge positions are displaced so that leading/lagging errors appear in accordance with a reversal of the certain rule when data fields of the frames to which the sub information bit value "0" is assigned are read.

It is possible to provide a safe and user-friendly authentication system for authenticating an object required in various conditions. The authentication system (900) includes a first authentication information transmission device (901) having first authentication information, a second authentication information transmission unit (904) having second authentication information, and an authentication unit (905) for authenticating a user or user’s right. The second authentication information transmission unit (904) transmits second authentication information only while it receives the first authentication information transmitted from the first authentication information transmission device (901). The authentication unit (905) receives the second authentication information transmitted from the second authentication information transmission unit (904) and authenticates a user or user’s right according to the second authentication information.

The plurality of blocks each includes a plurality of frames. The plurality of frames each includes one shape of wobbles indicating sub information, among a plurality of prescribed shapes of wobbles. The plurality of blocks each has address information. The address information is represented by a string of at least one piece of sub information represented by the shape of wobbles of at least one of the plurality of frames.

Cada una de la pluralidad de capas de grabación de información incluye un área de grabación de prueba utilizable para ajustar la condición de grabación. Una de la pluralidad capas de grabación de información incluye un área de datos de administración de sólo reproducción en la cual los datos de administración utilizables para administrar el medio de grabación de información está pre-grabada.
