Abstract: An outer wrapper 2 for a container 1 which includes and integral tear tape 12. The tear tape is formed by cutting two sets 14, 15 of score lines extending partially through the thickness of the wrapper material. The tear tape can be patterned to conform to the parting line 8, 10 along which the container opens, including oblique segments, thus allowing the container to be opened without interference from the parts of the wrapper which remain in contact with the container subsequent to removal of the tear tape.

Abstract: A puff-on-demand cigarette smoking apparatus for decreasing unnecessary tobacco burning as well as decreasing the generation of side stream smoke. The portable cigarette smoking apparatus can be used to smoke traditional cigarettes and includes a reusable lighter box housing including an aperture into which an end of a cigarette to be smoked is adapted to be inserted into. After the cigarette is inserted through the aperture, the cigarette is directed into a cigarette extinguishing sleeve. The cigarette smoking system includes an actuable trigger which is operably connected to a cigarette advancing mechanism for advancing the cigarette a preset distance along the cigarette extinguishing sleeve into the lighter box housing upon actuation of the trigger. As a result, a portion of the cigarette is advanced beyond the cigarette extinguishing sleeve. Actuation of the trigger also activates a heat source to temporarily provide heat to the exposed portion of the cigarette, thereby lighting the cigarette and allowing the smoker to take a puff from end of the cigarette protruding the lighter box housing. At the end of a puff, the cigarette extinguishing sleeve is capable of extinguishing the cigarette. Actuation of the trigger can be repeated a plurality of times until no more tobacco rod of the cigarette is available for smoking. At the conclusion of smoking, the remaining cigarette can be removed from the lighter box housing and discarded.

Abstract: A hinged top cigarette box is provided. The box has an inner sleeve nested inside an outer sleeve. Preferably both the inner sleeve member and the outer sleeve member are formed from the same laminate blank. The outer sleeve member has a cover member formed therein. The cover member opens and closes by the use of a flexural hinge. Alternatively, the hinged top box can be formed by separate laminate blanks. Plugs may be used to close the top and bottom portion of the hinged top box to hold the shape of the hinged top box and to prevent cigarettes or loose tobacco from falling therethrough.

Abstract: A printer and transport assembly includes a transport conveyor for receiving individual blanks and continuously conveying the blanks in a downstream direction. A digital high speed printer is positioned directly above the transport conveyor downstream from where the blanks are received on the transport conveyor for printing high quality indicia on the individual blanks as they are continuously conveyed downstream. A blank drying arrangement receives printed blanks from the transport conveyor and moves the blanks in spaced relationship over a course of travel of sufficient length so as to sufficiently dry the printed indicia on the blanks. Ultimately, the dried printed blanks may be collected in a stack. Packaging, greeting cards, stickers, labels and coupons, for example, may be printed with the printer and transport assembly.
