Abstract:
A machine (10) for folding and applying onserts onto consumer goods such as cigarette packs (14) comprises a continuous roll of preprinted onserts and a transverse cutter assembly for cutting onsert segments from the continuous roll (18). Each onsert segment includes a pair of side-by-side preprinted onserts (12). A buckle folder receives each cut onsert segment (22) and folds that segment along at least one transverse fold line. A longitudinal cutter assembly longitudinally cuts each folded onsert segment into two individual onserts.
Abstract:
A method for making cigarettes comprises providing a supplying tubes to a tobacco rod maker from a hopper (151), supplying tobacco to the maker through an updraught chamber (143, 145) so that tobacco accumulates around the tubes. The tobacco is wrapped with paper (123) in a garniture (117) to form hollow wrapped tobacco rods having a tube running through them.

Abstract:
A filter component cutting system (10) comprises a supply hopper (14) of elongate filter rods (12) and a cutting drum (22) with spaced apart flutes (20) on an exterior surface of the drum for receiving the elongate filler rods. A transfer mechanism (16, 18) receives the elongate filter rods from the supply hopper and delivers the rods to the flutes on the cutting drum. At least one cutter (30) adjacent the cutting drum functions to cut the filter rods in to individual filter components as the cutting drum rotates. A process using the system is also disclosed.

Abstract:
The present invention is directed to apparatus and methods for forming a sealed hollow core tobacco rod. The methods of the invention comprise passing a trimmed tobacco column (101) and paper (109) under a tongue (113) that widens and flattens the column and paper; forming the tobacco and paper into a cylindrical shape; forming an inner hollow core; maintaining the hollow core shape; and outputting the sealed hollow core tobacco rod (123).

Abstract:
Abstract:
A process for efficiently packaging cigarettes into a pack having a cross-section with one or more arcuate surfaces and having plastic end caps is provided. The process comprises: a) forming a shell from a blank; b) inserting a cigarette bundle into the shell; c) inserting an end cap into at least one end of the shell; and d) adhering the or each end cap to the shell.
Abstract:
A method for making cigarettes comprising feeding tubing piece-by-piece to a vertical duct by opening and closing-timing gate operated by cam, accelerating tubing down to the vertical duct, with the help of vertical accelerator belts until the tubing becomes captured into the hopper holder, picking the tubing with an articulate tubing holder located on a transferring drum, lowering to the garniture, and releasing the tubing under the registration lagged-belt.
