Abstract: A wireless communication system and methods thereof are disclosed. A server (e.g., a push-to-talk (PTT) server) determines a multicast message to be a final multicast message for a multicast session having an indeterminate end time. The server inserts a flag into the multicast message, the inserted flag indicating that the flagged multicast message is a final multicast message for the multicast session. The server sends the flagged multicast message to a communication entity (e.g., a radio access network (RAN), a broadcast serving node (BSN), etc.) supporting the multicast session. The communication entity (e.g., RAN, BSN, etc.) receives the multicast message from the server. The communication entity determines whether the received multicast message includes a flag relating to multicast session termination. The communication entity releases at least one channel associated with the multicast session based on the determining step.

Abstract: Methods systems and devices for supporting voice communications in a wireless communications system are provided. Some embodiments utilize multiple code channels to transmit the voice frames. These embodiments include parallel multi code embodiments offset multi code embodiments and multi user multi code embodiments. Some embodiments utilize flexible carrier bandwidths systems that may utilize portions of spectrum that may not be big enough to fit a normal bandwidth waveform. Some embodiments transmit and receive a subset of subframes of voice frames received over flexible bandwidth code channels. In some embodiments a subset of subframes based on a flexible bandwidth scaling factor of one or more flexible bandwidth code channels is transmitted. The receiver may decode the voice frame based on the received subset of subframes. An outer loop power control set point may be adjusted to provide a predetermined frame error rate based on the number of transmitted subframes.

Abstract: Aspects of managing acknowledgment transmissions from multicast group members of a multicast group within a wireless communications network are disclosed. An access network transmits an announce message announcing a multicast session to a plurality of access terminals. One of the plurality of access terminals (i.e., a first responder) sends a BCMCSFlowRegistration message and an announce acknowledgment (ACK) message to the access network. In an example, the BCMCSFlowRegistration message and announce ACK message are sent within the same access probe on a reverse link access channel. Next, the access network sends, in response to the received BCMCSFlowRegistration message, a suppression message to request access terminals not to send announce acknowledgment messages for the announced multicast session. Alternatively, an application server sends the suppression message in response to the received announce ACK message. In either scenario, the access terminals receiving the suppression message suppress transmission of subsequent announce ACK messages.

Abstract: Methods systems and devices are described for making scaling adjustments with respect to a fractional subsystem in a wireless communications system. To handle the effects of scaling associated with fractional bandwidth systems different adjustments may be made to maintain certain quality of service (QoS) requirements for example. Scaling adjustments may include identifying a scaling factor for the fractional subsystem and a parameter and/or a timer associated with the fractional subsystem. An adjustment associated with the parameter and/or timer may be determined based on the scaling factor. The adjustment may be applied with respect to the parameter and/or timer for at least a portion of the fractional subsystem or another portion of the wireless communications system.

Abstract: Aspects of mobility management within a wireless communications network including a plurality of sectors are disclosed. The wireless communications network includes a first cluster of sectors with at least one target sector and at least one supporting sector. The multicast communication session is carried within both the target and supporting sectors. The network controls a manner in which the cluster carries the multicast media by controlling the supporting sector number to be based on a supporting sector value.

GROUP COMMUNICATIONS OVER EVOLVED MULTIMEDIA BROADCAST/MULTICAST SERVICES

Abstract: The application relates to group communications over multimedia broadcast-multicast services MBMS. E-MBMS services can be used to distribute multicast data to groups and could be useful in group com¬ munication systems. However, in conventional E-MBMS services, the time to establish a new flow is on the order of 10 seconds. This laten¬ cy is unacceptable for high performance group communication sys¬ tems, such as a push to talk system that requires less than 1 second from the call initiation from the originator to the granting of the floor to at least one group member. This problem is solved in that a multi¬ cast flow is pre-reserved for the media flow in such a way that it can be quickly established. Furthermore, another multicast flow, which is "always-on", is used as a sort of application layer paging flow in order to indicate activity on the media flow. The user equipment monitors the paging flow (Multicast flow#l) regarding activity of a group com¬ munication (Call Announcement) and upon receipt of a call announce message, switches to the corresponding media flow (Multicast flow #2).
