Abstract: A pressure transmitter is coupled directly to an industry standard flange adapter union having a standard bolt hole spacing. Small diameter isolator diaphragms are positioned on the transmitter housing at locations so that the industry standard flange adapter union which couple fluid pressure sources to act on the isolator diaphragms without an intermediate large flange or manifold as is presently required and using the fasteners for the adapter union to complete the coupling. The smaller isolaters fit within the bolt hole spacing of the industry standard adapter union.

Abstract: A measurement circuit (10) provides an output signal as a function of an input signal. The measurement circuit includes a charge generator (18) which provides packets of charge as a function of the input signal to a measurement element (34). The measurement element (34) measures the charge provided and provides a measurement signal as a function of the charge received. The measurement signal (28) is coupled to a feedback circuit (9) which couples to switches in the charge generator (18) to control production of charge packets. The feedback circuit (9) provides at least one output signal indicative of the quantity or number of charge packets provided.

Abstract: A capacitive pressure sensor that is fabricated by a batch process affords isolation for the sensing element and leads from the pressure media and provides stress isolation as well. The pressure sensor is made up of a sandwich construction including a silicon wafer which is etched from one side to make cavities in a plurality of desired locations to form deflecting diaphragms, one surface of which acts as a capacitor plate. A glass layer is metalized on both sides and has holes drilled in locations that align with the diaphragms formed on the silicon wafer. The glass layer is anodically bonded to the wafer to form capacitance gap of a few microns relative to the one surface of each diaphragm. The assembly of the metalized glass layer and the silicon wafer is in a preferred form sandwiched between two additional layers, and bonded together in a vacuum atmosphere. The four layer sandwich is then cut up into individual sensors. The initial assembly can be formed to provide dampening of the diaphragm response times and to minimize the likelihood of false signals at high frequency inputs.

Abstract: The cavities in a cell casing have silicone oil adapted to receive pressure and exert corresponding force on diaphragm. The diaphragm is deflected based on difference in received pressure. Electrodes defining variable capacitors are coupled to center and edges of interior wall and coupled to conductive portion of diaphragm. The cell casing has interior walls with edge surrounding center region and defining a cavity, portioned by deflectable diaphragm arranged between interior walls. Independent claims are also included for the following: (a) process pressure transmitter; (b) differential pressure measuring method; (c) error compensating method in measuring differential pressure.

Abstract: A transmitter in a process control system includes input/output circuitry for coupling to a process control loop. A first sensor having a first impedance is responsive to a first sensed parameter. A second sensor having a second impedance is responsive to a sensed parameter. First and second excitation signals are applied to the first and second sensors. A summing node sums the outputs of the first and second sensors. An analog to digital converter provides a digital output representative of the summed signals. Digital signal processing circuitry coupled to the analog to digital converter provides an output related to the outputs of the first and second sensors to the input/output circuitry for transmission over the process control loop.
