Abstract: A development apparatus includes a developer guide member (3) in a position on an upstream side of a blade (4) in a rotating direction of a developing roller (2), where the developer guide member does not come into contact with the developing roller. The developer guide member is formed of an elastic body or an elastic foam body. The developer guide member prevents toner which is regulated by the blade from flowing upward from the blade, and allows the toner to efficiently flow underneath the blade. Therefore, with an image forming apparatus using toner as a nonmagnetic single-component developer, it is possible to obtain high-density image quality. It is also possible to provide a development apparatus, in a simple and inexpensive construction, which decreases deterioration of the toner and the apparatus with time.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a developing device for developing, by using a developer (13, 16; 27, 107), a latent image formed on a surface of an image data forming member (7; 21; 101), comprising: a developer accommodating section (14; 26; 103) for accommodating the developer; a developer retaining member (2; 23; 102) for receiving the developer from the developer accommodating section (14; 26; 103) and transporting the developer to the latent image formed on the image data forming member (7; 21; 101); an electrode (4; 24; 104) provided at a position which is downstream from the developer accommodating section (14; 26; 103) and upstream from the image data forming member (7; 21; 101) in a direction in which the developer is transported, the electrode (4; 24; 104) being opposed to the developer retaining member (2; 23; 102); and voltage applying means (10; 25; 105, 106) for applying a DC voltage between the electrode (4; 24; 104) and the developer retaining member (2; 23; 102) so that the electric sign of the electrode (4; 24; 104) be identical to that of the toner charge.

Abstract: Bidirectional optical communication devices are attached to both ends of an optical fiber, and each of them has a transmitting light wave guide coupled to a semiconductor laser and a received light wave guide which is coupled to a photodiode, and optically separated from the transmitting light wave guide. On the end face of the light-incident area of the optical fiber on which transmitting light coupled to the optical fiber from the transmitting light wave guide is directed, the light axis of the transmitting light is set so as to tilt with respect to the normal to the end face of the light-incident area so as to prevent reflected light on the end face of the light-incident area caused by the transmitting light from entering the photodiode installed on the same side as the semiconductor laser. Consequently, light communication is simultaneously carried out bidirectionally in a stable manner by using a single optical fiber; thus, it is possible to provide a bidirectional optical communication device and a bidirectional optical communication apparatus using this device at low costs.
