Abstract: This invention relates to a polyester composition containing particles of a cross-linked polymer having an ester bond in the principal chain. These particles have excellent affinity for polyester. Accordingly, in a film molded from polyester containing these particles, the particles hardly come off during a high-speed travelling of the film, and flaws ascribed to the particles also hardly occur on the film surface. Therefore, the deterioration of a film due to the occurrence of white powder thereon which is ascribed to the falling of the particles, which has posed problems when various kinds of particles were added, and due to the flaws on a magnetic surface can be prevented. Moreover, the contamination of the film manufacturing processes can be prevented, and the film thus obtained can be used suitably as, especially, magnetic tape.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a polyester polymerization catalyst, comprising a solution containing an aluminum compound and an alkali compound, with water or an organic solvent or a mixture consisting of water and an organic solvent as the medium, a production method thereof, and a polyester production method, in which the product obtained by the esterification reaction or ester interchange reaction between an aromatic dicarboxylic acid or any of its ester forming derivative and a diol is polycondensed, to produce a polyester, comprising the use of said polymerization catalyst containing an aluminum compound. The present invention can provide a polyester excellent in processability and can overcome such problems as spinneret contamination, filtration pressure rise, filament breaking, film breaking and foreign matter production in the production process of products such as fibers, films, resins and bottles.

Abstract: A polymerization catalyst for polyester production which is a solution of solutes comprising an aluminum compound and an alkali compound in water, an organic solvent, or a mixture of both; and a process for producing a polyester which comprises esterifying or transesterifying an aromatic dicarboxylic acid or an ester-forming derivative thereof with a diol or an ester-forming derivative thereof and condensation-polymerizing the resultant reaction product, characterized by using the polymerization catalyst containing an aluminum compound. The catalyst can yield a polyester having excellent moldability and being usable for producing moldings such as fibers, films, resins, bottles, etc., without posing problems such as nozzle fouling, filtering pressure increase, thread breakage, film breakage, and defects caused by foreign substances.

Abstract: Disclosed is a biaxially oriented film and a laminated film containing specified organic particles at a content of 0.001 to 20% by weight. The strength when deformed by 10% (S10) of the organic particles is in the range of 3 to 30 kgf/mm2, the thermal decomposition temperature for causing 10% loss in weight thereof is not lower than 350 .degree.C . The weight average diameter thereof is in the range of 0.005 to 5 .mu. m. Since the organic particles have a good affinity with the matrix resin of the film and a good thermal resistance and the hardness of the particles is appropriate, desired protrusions hardly chipped and having an appropriate hardness for hardly scratching a magneticsurface can be formed on a film surface easily and uniformly. Therefore, a film excellent in abrasion resistance and scratch resistance at a high running speed and excellent in running durability can be obtained, which is useful particularly as a base film of a magnetic tape.
