    Abstract: PURPOSE:To improve the tire performance by constructing the carcass of a tire with a cord of fibers in a polyvinyl alcohol family, in which the degree of polymerization, tensile strength, the initial modules of elasticity, and the fineness of a single yarn are specified, and no long period image is observed in a X-ray small angular scattering measurement. CONSTITUTION:Polymer in a polyvynyl alcohol family, the degree of polymerization of which is 2,000 or more is used as the carcass member of a belted bias tire, besides, such fibers in a polyvinyl alcohol family are twisted together, as having tensile strength of 15g/d or more the initial modules of elasticity of 250g/d, or more, the fineness of a single yearn of 0.5 to 5 denier, and having no long period image observed in a X-ray small angular scattering measurement, Then adhesive for bonding rubber is applied to said fibers which shall be and heat-treated in a stretched condition to form a tire cord so as to be used as the carcass member of the belted bias tire.     Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a carbon fiber for reinforcing rubber, having good adhesion to the rubber, and excellent fatigue resistance in the rubber, and suitable for reinforcement of a fiber-rubber composite product, and to provide a method for producing the carbon fiber. SOLUTION: This carbon fiber for reinforcing the rubber has an organic solvent-based adhesive treatment agent comprising a rubber composition imparted at least on the surface of the carbon fiber. The rubber composition in a proportion of 10-45 wt.% expressed in terms of solid is attached to the surface of the carbon fiber, and the surface of each single fiber of the carbon fiber is covered with the adhesive treatment agent. The method for producing the carbon fiber for reinforcing the rubber comprises attaching the adhesive treatment agent comprising an organic solvent solution of the rubber composition to a carbon fiber bundle comprising multifilaments in a nontwisted state, drying and heat-treating the carbon fiber bundle with the rubber composition, and twisting the resultant bundle of the carbon fiber.
