CONSTITUTION:(A) 100 pts.wt. anisotropic melt-forming liquid crystal polyester comprising structural units shown by formula I to formula IV (X is group shown by formula V, etc.; Y is group shown by formula VI, etc.), having 75-95mol% structural units I+II based on structural units I+II+III, 25-5mol% structural unit III based on structural units I+II+III and a molar ratio of structural unit I/II of 75/25 to 95/5 is blended with (B) 1-200 pts.wt. filler (e.g. glass fibers) and (C) 0.01-20 pts.wt., preferably 0.1-10 pts.wt. compound (e.g. 1,3-phenylene-2- oxazoline) shown by formula VII (Z is group shown by formula VI).

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a chemically stable and practical packing agent which is relatively easy to produce with a wide analyzable range of compound, by using an optically active monomer or the like given by a specified formula. CONSTITUTION:A polymer comprising an optically active monomer given by the formula I and a monomer given by the formula II is immobilized on a silica gel to form a packing agent for optical resolution. In the formula I, R1 represents a phenyl group, 1-naphthyl group or 2-naphthyl group or a phenyl group, 1-naphthyl group or 2-naphthyl group which is replaced with a lower alkyl group, R2 a lower alkyl group, R3 hydrogen atom or methyl group and *asymmetric carbon atom. In the formula II, R4, R5 and R6 are the same or different alkyl groups alkoxyl groups, hydroxyl groups or halogen atoms provided that at least one of R4, R5 and R6 shall be an alkoxyl group or a halogen atom.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the subject composition which is useful in electric and electronic appliances, business appliances and precision machines because it is excellent in moldability, mechanical properties and dimensional accuracy by adding specific glass fibers to a liquid crystalline resin having specific structural units at a specific ratio. CONSTITUTION:The objective composition comprises (A) 100 pts.wt. of liquid crystalline polyester resin containing structural units of formulae I to IV (R1 is formula V, VI; R2 is formula VII, VIII), preferably I+II is 80 to 92 mole% of I+II+III, III is 20 to 80 mole% of I+II+III where III is the component obtained from ethylene glycol, IV is equimolar to II+III and the component obtained from terephthalic acid, and (B) 5 to 300 pts.wt. of glass fibers of 3 to 15mum diameter and 0.02 to 0.45mm, preferably 0.04 to 0.3mm length (preferably the content of fibers longer than 1mm is 0.5 to 4%, that shorter than 1mm is more than 58 %). The structural units of formulas I and II are derived from p-hydroxybenzoic acid and 4,4-dihydroxybiphenyl, respectively.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the subject resin composition having excellent heat-resistance, moldability and surface appearance and small anisotropy of mechanical properties by filling carbon fibers having a specific average fiber diameter into a liquid crystal polyester resin composed of a specific structural unit. CONSTITUTION:The objective resin composition is produced by kneading (A) 100 pts. wt. of a liquid crystal polyester resin having a melting point (Tm deg.C) satisfying the formula IX (X is mol% of the group of formula III based on the sum of the groups of formula I, formula II and formula III) and a logarithmic viscosity of 1-3 di/g and composed of structural units of formula I to formula TV (R1 is group of formula V, formula VI, etc.; R2 is group of formula VII, formula VIII, etc.), preferably R1 is group of formula VI, R2 is group of formula VII, the ratio of (I+II)/(I+II+III) is 60-95mol%, III/(I+II+III) is 40-5mol% and the molar ratio of I/II is 75/25 to 95/5 and (B) 5-200 pts.wt. of carbon fiber having an average fiber diameter of 3-15mum using a twin screw extruder under melting at a temperature between Tma and Tma+20 deg.C (Tma is melting point of the component A). The number average fiber distance of the component B in the composition is 0.05-0.25mm, the weight-average fiber length is 0.12-0.5mm and the aspect ratio of the fiber is 10-100.

CONSTITUTION:(A) 100 pts.wt. liquid crystal polyester forming an anisotropic melt phase, preferably a polyester shown by formula I, formula II, formula III or formula IV (R1 is one or more groups obtained from groups shown by formula V, formula VI, etc.; R2 is one or more groups selected from groups shown by formula VII, formula VIII, etc.; X is H or Cl and group II and group III are in amounts equimolar with group shown by formula IV) and/or liquid polyester amide is blended with (B) 1-200 pts.wt., preferably 3-100 pts.wt. graphite having >=90%, preferably >=94% fixed carbon and 1-20mum, preferably 2-10mum average particle diameter and preferably further based on 100 pts.wt. total amounts of the components A and B of (C) 0.5-2 pts.wt. powdery silicone and (D) >=200 pts.wt. filler to give a liquid crystal composition.

The liq. crystal polyester means a polyester forming an anisotropic molten phase, such as p-hydroxybenzoic acid/polyethylene terephthalate liq. crystal polyester or p-hydroxybenzoic acid/6-hydroxy-2- naphthoic acid liq. crystal polyester.

PREPARATION:A compound shown by formula VII is treated with an excess amount of SOCl2 for several hours under reflux to form an acid chloride shown by VIII, which is reacted with a compound shown IV at room temperature or under heating for several hours to give a compound shown by formula I.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound in high purity and yield from a bottom residue, by neutralizing a reaction solution prepared by chlorinating and esterifying 4-hydroxybenzoic acid in methanol solvent with an aqueous solution of caustic soda and recovering the methanol by distillation. CONSTITUTION:4-Hydroxybenzoic acid is chlorinated and esterified in methanol as a solvent in the same reaction system to give a reaction solution containing water and hydrogen chloride which are by-products. An aqueous solution of caustic soda is then added to the above-mentioned reaction solution to neutralize the hydrochloric acid dissolved in the solution within 2.5-5.5, preferably 4.0-5.0pH range. The methanol is then recovered by distillation. The resultant bottom residue is separated into an aqueous phase containing dissolved common salt and an organic phase consisting essentially of the aimed substance at 80-105 deg.C. The organic phase is then distilled to afford the aimed compound.

SOLUTION: This composition comprises (A) >50 and =0.01 and =80 deg.C glass transition temperature. Furthermore, (C) a filler in an amount of 1-300 pts.wt. based on 100 pts.wt. total amount of the components A and B and (D) a flame retardant in an amount of 0.01-60 pts.wt. based on 100 pts.wt. total amount of the component A and B are preferably compounded in the composition. Thereby, a precise molded product obtained by injection molding, a molded product, etc., having a welded part can be provided.
