    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a color paste having red, green and blue uniform rheological characteristics and without causing uneven coloration due to sagging in coating and the wind in drying by specifying the yield value and non-Newtonian viscosity index of a transparent resin composition contg. pigment. CONSTITUTION:This transparent resin composition contains pigment and is a colored paste for a color filter. The yield value s0 and the non-Newtonian viscosity index (n) are >=0.1Pa and . As the non-Newtonian viscosity index (n) is lowered, the film applied is smoothed immediately after coating, and the leveling performance is improved. The sagging in coating is reduced as the yield value sO is increased.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a color filter having a small depolarizing effect so that when this filter assembled in a liquid crystal display cell, such a product having high contrast and good display performance can be obtd. by using a coloring agent comprising an org. pigment and specifying the proportion of components except for the extender in the org. pigment. CONSTITUTION:The coloring agent consists of an org. pigment in which the proportion of components except for the extender is >=95wt.%. It is preferable that the proportion is >=97wt.%, and more preferably, >=99wt.%. The extender is a transparent or white pigment to be added to thin the color of the org. pigment and to control its color tone. For example, barium sulfate, heavy magnesium carbonate, soft magnesium carbonate, calcium carbonate, aluminum oxide, kaolinite, halloysite, muscovite, and talc are used. To obtain a color filter having a small depolarization effect, it is preferable to select such a pigment having =5wt.% extender, the extender can be removed in the production process of a paste, such as dispersing or filtering.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain enough adhesion strength when a color filter and a counter electrode substrate are laminated by depositing a polyimide layer and an imido- modified silicone layer in this order to constitute a transparent protective film and processing the film into a desired pattern. CONSTITUTION:A transparent protective film is formed on a color layer, and further, a transparent electrode layer such as tin indium oxide is formed on the protective film. The transparent protective film is formed by depositing a polyimide layer and an imide-modified silicone layer in this order and processed into a desired pattern. The desired pattern means such a pattern that the transparent protective film is formed only on the required area such as the effective picture element area and that no film is formed on the edge part, side faces or back surface of the substrate. By processing the transparent protective film into this pattern, no transparent protective film is formed in unnecessary area. Thus, enoguh adhesion strength to laminate the color filter and the counter electrode substrate can be obtd.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide the color filter having high transparency and excellent reliability by providing the surface of a substrate with colored layers and protective layer and constituting the protective layer of a specific non-colored polyimide layer and a silicone layer formed thereon. CONSTITUTION:The protective layer of the color filters having the colored layers and the protective layer on the substrate is constituted of the non-colored polyimide layer and the silicone layer formed thereon. The non-colored polyimide layer contains the polyimide which is not colored by pigments, etc., i.e., the polymer expressed by formulas as a main constituting unit. In the formula, R is a tervalent or quadrivalent org. group having >=2 pieces of carbon atoms and R is a bivalent org. group having >=2 pieces of carbon atoms. The film thickness of the non-colored polyimide layer is preferably 0.01 to 0.5mum. Imide modified silicone contg. Si atoms in either of the main chain or side chain in the resin is preferably used as the silicone resin constituting the protective layer to be formed on the polyimide layer.

It is useful also as a synthetic intermediate for pharmaceuticals, agricultural chemicals, perfumes, etc. It can be easily modified by chemical modification, has high spontaneous polarization and excellent weatherability and is usable as an asymmetric source for the synthesis of a ferroelectric liquid crystal. PREPARATION:The objective compound of formula I is produced by condensing an optically active 2,4-pentanediol with an aldehyde of formula II and reacting the resulting cyclic acetal with a reducing agent.

EXAMPLE:(S)-2-Methylbutyl 6-(4'-n-decyloxybiphenyl-4-carbonyloxy)pyridine-3- carboxylate. USE:A display element material, stable to water and light, having improved weather resistance and capable of being a smectic liquid crystal, particularly chiral smectic C liquid crystal assuming ferroelectricity within a wide temperature range. PREPARATION:A compound expressed by formula II and SOCl2 in an excess amount are refluxed for several hours while heating and the unreacted SOCl2 is removed by vacuum distillation to form a compound expressed by formula III, which is then reacted with an optically active compound expressed by formula IV in an aromatic hydrocarbon solvent, e.g. benzene, etc., in the presence of an organic base, e.g. triethylamine, etc., at room temperature or under heating condition for several hours to afford the aimed compound expressed by formula I.
