Abstract:
A biaxially oriented polyester film suited as a substrate for magnetic recording media. The film comprises a polyester and inert particles and has at least one surface with protrusions formed by the existence of the inert particles. The surface has a parameter of surface topography 2ROOT ( beta / sigma ) of 0.1 to 0.7. The average distance between adjacent protrusions is not more than 20 um and the coefficient of friction of the surface and the parameter of surface topography satisfies the following equations (1) and (2): y >/= 0.171 2ROOT ( beta / sigma ) + 0.15 (1) y
Abstract:
Disclosed is a biaxially oriented film and a laminated film containing specified organic particles at a content of 0.001 to 20% by weight. The strength when deformed by 10% (S10) of the organic particles is in the range of 3 to 30 kgf/mm2, the thermal decomposition temperature for causing 10% loss in weight thereof is not lower than 350 .degree.C . The weight average diameter thereof is in the range of 0.005 to 5 .mu. m. Since the organic particles have a good affinity with the matrix resin of the film and a good thermal resistance and the hardness of the particles is appropriate, desired protrusions hardly chipped and having an appropriate hardness for hardly scratching a magneticsurface can be formed on a film surface easily and uniformly. Therefore, a film excellent in abrasion resistance and scratch resistance at a high running speed and excellent in running durability can be obtained, which is useful particularly as a base film of a magnetic tape.
Abstract:
A biaxially oriented polyester film wherein the ratio (=IMD /IND) of the peak intensity (IMD) in the longitudinal direction to the peak intensity (IND) in the thickness direction determined at 1615 cm by laser Raman scattering method is not less than 6; and a process for production of a biaxially oriented polyester film which comprises the steps of controlling the ratio (A/B) of the maximum thickness (A) of the edge portion of a cast film to the thickness (B) of the central portion in the transverse direction thereof in the range of 2 to 6, biaxially stretching the cast film, and controlling the peak intensity ratio of the biaxially oriented film determined by the laser Raman scattering method in the above-described range. The biaxially oriented polyester film thus produced has a specific orientation in the longitudinal direction, and therefore has great strength in the longitudinal direction and small irregularity in properties such as thickness or birefringence.
Abstract:
A polyester film made of organic polymer particles, which have a specified strength at the time of deformation, and of which the product of the specific surface area and diameter is specified. The particles in film form are deformed in a specific direction, and the film has a surface with minute projections. This polyester film has a desired surface form, particularly suitable for magnetic recording media, and has excellent balance of travellability, wear resistance and electromagnetic conversion characteristics.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve easy adhesion and eliminate thickness irregularities by applying an easily adherent coating on one of the faces of a polyester film whose ratio of a peak strength in the longitudinal direction of a biaxially oriented polyester film and a peak strength in the thickness direction, at a specific number of waves measured by the laser Raman scattering process. SOLUTION: An easily adherent coating is applied to one of the faces of a polyester film whose ratio R (IMD/IND) of a peak strength (IMD) in the longitudinal direction and a peak strength (IND) in the thickness direction, at 1615 cm measured by the laser Raman scattering process is 6-20. This coating is preferably a mixture made up mainly of copolyester ether resin and higher fatty acid wax. This polyester film is oriented in a first step at a magnification of 1.5-3 times, within a range of film temperature above the Tg and below the Tg+60 deg.C of polyester at the time of orientating the film in the longitudinal direction, and then is oriented in a second step at a magnification of about 2.5-4 times after lowering the film temperatures to a level below a temperature lower by 5 deg.C than the orientation temperature of the first step.

PURPOSE: To obtain a biaxially oriented polyester film which improves the contact state of a magnetic tape and a head, reduces the damage of a magnetic surface and has improved in electromagnetic conversion characteristics by specifying the inclination of the orientation main axis of the biaxially oriented polyester film with respect to the longitudinal direction of the film. CONSTITUTION: The orientation main axis of a biaxially oriented polyester film is inclined within a range of 3-20 deg. with respect to the longitudinal direction of the film. The stretching of the film in the longitudinal direction thereof may be performed in an one-stage fashion or a multistage fashion of two or more stages but, when the F-5 value in the longitudinal direction of an uniaxially stretched film is 17kg/mm or more, it is especially suitable to perform two-stage stretching such that a polyester film is stretched by 1.2-4 times within the temp. range of Tg-(Tg+60 deg.C) of polyester and subjected to the second stage stretching of about 2-5 times at temp. equal to or lower than (first stage stretching temp. -5 deg.C) in order to obtain this inclination of the orientation main axis. Subsequently, the polyester film is laterally stretched and oriented.
Abstract:
PURPOSE:To stably form a biaxially oriented polyethylene-2,6-naphthalate film having excellent mechanical strength to beneficially use the same for a magnetic recording medium or the like by performing longitudinal stretching over two stages and setting the stretching conditions in the respective stages to specific ranges. CONSTITUTION:A non-stretched polyethylene-2,6-naphthalate film in a substantially amorphous state is stretched by 1.5-3.0 times at temp. of 140-200 deg.C in a first stage and continuously stretched in the same direction as the first stage at temp. lower than the stretching temp. of the first stage so that the product of the stretching magnification of the first stage and that of a second stage becomes 5.0-12.0 times. Further, the film is streched in the direction crossing the stretching direction of the first and second stags at a right angle. Herein, it is pref. that the double refraction (DELTAn) of the film after first stage stretching is 0.005-0.07 and the double refraction (DELTAn) of the film after second stage stretching is 0.2-0.5.
