    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain an aromatic polyester composition useful for obtaining biaxially oriented films having excellent scratch resistance, running properties, and surface evenness by incorporating specific composite particles. CONSTITUTION:The objective composition contains composite particles composed of inactive particles having a positive zeta-potential in pure water (e.g. Al2O3) and inactive particles having a negative zeta-potential in pure water. The latter particles consist, for example, of an aromatic dicarboxylate (e.g. bis(beta- hydroxyethyl) terephthalate or a low-molecular polymer thereof), an alkali (alkaline earth) metal compound (e.g. lithium acetate), and a phosphorus compound (e.g. trimethyl phosphate or phosphorous acid).

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a polyester composition which can give an ultrathin film or an ultrafine fiber in good productivity by a process for obtaining a polyester by the esterification and polycondensation of an acid component based on an aromatic dicarboxylic acid and a glycol component, wherein particles inert to the polyester are added under specified conditions. CONSTITUTION:A process for obtaining a polyester by the esterification or transesterification and subsequent polycondensation of a dicarboxylic acid (esterifiable derivative) based on an aromatic dicarboxylic acid (e.g. dimethyl terephthalate) and a glycol component (e.g. ethylene glycol), wherein particles (e.g. titanium oxide) inert to the polyester in the form of a glycol slurry are added continuously or intermittently to the reaction system while the temperature drop of the reaction system is controlled within 50 deg.C.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a polyester excellent in dispersibility of particles and useful for obtaining a film or a fiber by a process for obtaining a polyester from a carboxylic acid component based on an aromatic dicarboxylic acid and a glycol component based on ethylene glycol, wherein specified inert inorganic particles are added to the reaction system under specified conditions. CONSTITUTION:A process for producing a polyester from a carboxylic acid component based on an aromatic dicarboxylic acid (e.g. terephthalic acid) and a glycol component based on ethylene glycol, wherein 0.01-3wt.% inert inorganic particles (e.g. CaCO3 particles) of a mean particle diameter of 0.5-5.0mu are added to the reaction system having a carboxyl terminal concentration of the reaction product of 100 equivalents or below per 10 g of the reaction product after the esterification reaction is substantially complete.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a composition remarkably improved in scratch resistance, travelling property and surface characteristics when molded as a film by blending a polyester with depositing grains containing P, Ca and Li and inert inorganic grains. CONSTITUTION:A polyester having main recurring units consisting of an aromatic dicarboxylate is blended with (A) 0.1-3.0wt.% depositing grains containing at least one kind of lithium and calcium and phosphorus as a part of components and (B) 0.01-3.0wt.% inert inorganic grains having 10-300mmu average grain size and >=7.0 Mohs hardness. When the polyester is produced from an aromatic dicarboxylic acid or ester-forming derivative thereof and glycol, the component B is added to polymerization system before intrinsic viscosity of the polyester attains 0.3 and the grains consisting of Li, Ca and P are deposited in the presence of the component B.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a polymer, having excellent electrostatic application casting property and suitable as films for photography and magnetic tapes, by adding specific amounts of a glycol-soluble Mg or Mn compound, glycol-soluble alkali metal compound and phosphorus compound and carrying out polycondensation. CONSTITUTION:(C) A glycol-soluble Mg compound (e.g. magnesium acetate) or (D) a glycol-soluble Mn compound (e.g. manganese acetate) in an amount satisfying formula I [M is the number of mol. of the components (C) and (D) based on 10 g polyester (hereinafter referred to as the number of mol.)], (E) a glycol-soluble alkali metal compound (e.g. lithium acetate) in an amount satisfying formula II (A is the number of mol.) and (F) a phosphorus compound in an amount satisfying formula III (P is the number of mol.) are added to the (A) a dicarboxylic acid component (e.g. terephthalic acid) and (B) a glycol component (e.g. ethylene glycol) in a molar amount of 1.3-1.8 times based on the component (A) to carry out polycondensation and afford the aimed polymer.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To enable ester interchange reaction of a dicarboxylic acid dialkyl ester with an alkylene glycol in short time and high stability, by performing he reaction in a reaction system under a pressure higher than atmospheric pressure and discharging the alkylene glycol out of the system. CONSTITUTION:Dialkyl ester of 1,2-bis(chlorophenoxy)ethane-4,4'-dicarboxylic acid is subjected to ester interchange reaction with an alkylene glycol under a pressure higher than atmospheric pressure, preferably under 0.1-3kg/cm G pressure. After the completion of the reaction, the pressure of the reaction system is lowered preferably to G and remaining alkylene glycol is discharged from the system to obtain bis(beta-hydroxyalkyl)-1,2-bis (chlorophenoxy)ethane-4,4'-dica-rboxyl ate or its oligomer.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a film, which has high Young's modulus and is excellent in high-speed slitting, by a method wherein polyester containing specified components is biaxially oriented and heat-treated so as to set the density, the change of thickness and the friction coefficient of a resultant film at specified values respectively. CONSTITUTION:In a film consisting of polyester, the major component of which is carboxylic acid residue and ethylene glycol residue represented by a structural unit I, which contains at least one kind out of carboxylic acid residues represented by structural units II and III and the molar ratio of said residues of which satisfies the formula represented at the lowermost line, its density lies within the range of 1.44-1.50g/cm , the change of its thicknesses in width direction is 15% or less and its friction coefficient lies within the range of 0.5-4.0. Because the film, which has high Young's modulus and is excellent in slitting at high speed, the film can be thinned and consequently the miniaturization of magnetic tape and capacitor can be contrived.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide a biaxially stretched laminated film having scratch resistance, running properties, flatness and oxidatation stability CONSTITUTION:A biaxially stretched lamifnated film is obtained by biaxially stretching a compsn. prepared by adding 0.1-10wt.% of polyoxyalkylene glycol with an average mol.wt. of 1,000-200,000 and 0.01-10wt.% of particles insoluble in polyester to polyes constituting a surface layer (sub-layer) so that the thickness of the sub-layer is set to 0.005-5mum. Therefore, this film is excellent in scratch resistance, running properties, flatness and oxidation stability and especially suitably used as a film for a magnetic recording medium.
