    Abstract: PURPOSE:To prevent the vacuum circuit of a condensation polymerization system from being clogged and to prevent the glycol distilled from escaping out of the system, by opening a reactor valve at the beginning of the condensation polymerization of a polyester, to release the glycol distilled, and closing the valve when the reactor reaches a specified pressure. CONSTITUTION:In the preparation of a polyester by the batchwise condensation polymerization of a glycol ester of a discarboxylic acid, a polymerizer equipped with a delivery tank for the glycol distilled, capable of being connected to or disconnected, by a valve, from a receiver for the glycol distilled, is used. In such a polymerizer, the glycol distilled is introduced from the receiver into the delivery tank, by opening the valve at the beginning of the reaction, and the valve is closed when the reactor reaches a pressure of 100-1mm.Hg. It is undesirable to close the valve at a pressure >=100mm.Hg, because a sufficient amount of the glycol is not stored in the delivery tank, while a considerable amount of the glycol distilled is stored in the receiver and it is redistilled with increased vacuum.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide the title equipment comprising a polycondensation vessel, a condenser, a vacuum valve, and a vacuum source, with the vacuum valve being installed under the condenser and between the condenser and the vessel to prevent troubles which could be caused by the valve clogging. CONSTITUTION:The present invention relates to a novel polycondensation equipment for polyesters comprising a polycondensation vessel, a condenser, a vacuum valve, and a vacuum source, in which the vacuum valve is installed between the condenser and the vessel; the equipment works as follows: The polycondensation vessel 1 holds an esterified or ester-interchanged bishydroxyethylene terephathalate (BHT) and its oligomer. The system is being kept under a state of reduced pressure by the vacuum source 5. The ethylene glycol vapor evolved is liquefied by the condenser 4, being stored in a tank 2. The accompanying BHT or its oligomer, though attached to the vacuum valve 3, is dissolved at once in the ethylene glycol flowing down from the condenser 4 because of the washing effect of the etylene glycol, and then carried together into the tank 2. The process described above enables the vacuum valve 3 to be prevented from clogging easily and assuredly.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain high-quality bishydroxyethyl terephthalate and/or its oligomer, by depolymerizing a waste polyester composed mainly of ethylene terephthalate under a specific condition in a short time. CONSTITUTION:A bishydroxyethyl terephthalate and/or its oligomer (abbreviated as BHT) wherein the equivalent ratio of the glycol component to the acid component is 1.3-2.0 is charged in a reaction vessel in molten state. Ethylene glycol and waste polyester are added simultaneously and continuously to the reaction vessel, and the waste polyester composed mainly of ethylene terephthalate is depolymerized by keeping the equivalent ratio of the glycol component to the acid component to 1.3-2.0 and keeping the temperature of the depolymerization reaction system at 215-250 deg.C under stirring. The polyester prepared by the polymerization of the BHT obtained by the depolymerization has high softening point, excellent color tone, low content of foreign materials, and high quality.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To shorten the time of transesterification, by adding a catalyst at a point when the reaction temperature reaches the vicinity of the activation temperature of catalyst, in the transesterification between dimethyl terephthalate and ethylene glycol. CONSTITUTION:Into a transesterification vessel 6 having a rectifying column 1, condenser 2, distributor 3, reflux circuit 4 and distillate circuit 5 are charged dimethyl terephthalate and ethylene glycol. The reaction mixture is heated under agita tion by means of an agitator 8 to start transesterification. Next, at a point when the temperature of the tansesterification mixture reaches (t-10)-(t+25) deg.C, a transesterification catalyst having an activation temperature of t deg.C is added to the mixture to complete the reaction. Then, the transesterification product thus produced is polymerized. EFFECT:Blocking of a condenser, distributor, reflux circuit or the like due to deposition of dimethyl terephthalate does not occur. Accordingly, the reaction time is markedly shortened.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To prevent blocking of a condenser, distributor, etc., by altering the reflux ratio of a rectifying column a plurality of times according to the transesterification temperature, in the batchwise transesterification between dimethyl terephthalate and ethylene glycol. CONSTITUTION:Dimethyl terephthalate and ethylene glycol are charged through a material inlet 7 into a reaction vessel 6, and transesterified under heating and agitation by means of an agitator 8. The methanol formed by the reaction and the accompanying glycol and dimethyl terephthalate are passed into a rectifying column 1, and the vapor passed through the column is liquefied in a condenser 2, and introduced to a distributor 3, from which part of the liquid is recirculated via a reflux circuit 4 into the rectifying column 3, and another part of the liquid is recovered through a distillate circuit. Here, according to the reaction temperature, and reflux ratio is set low (below 1.0) at the initial stage. This reflux ratio is altered stepwise or continuously at least twice with the temperature rise, and set at infinity, i.e., total reflux, when the overhead temperature of the column exceeds 70 deg.C.
