    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject solution for a magnetic recording medium capable of obtaining a smoother aromatic polyamide film by controlling the number of foreign particles in an aromatic polyamide solution. SOLUTION: This aromatic polyamide solution is obtained by making =3 μm particle diameter. In order to obtain the objective solution, (A) an aromatic diamine with (B) an aromatic dicarboxylic acid halide or an aromatic aminocarboxylic acid halide are reacted in a solvent, and it is preferable to use a solvent used for the above reaction containing =3 μm particle diameter, the components (A) and (B) containing each =3 μm particle diameter, and an inert gas containing number of foreign particles having >=1 μm particle diameter.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To prevent blocking of a condenser, distributor, etc., by altering the reflux ratio of a rectifying column a plurality of times according to the transesterification temperature, in the batchwise transesterification between dimethyl terephthalate and ethylene glycol. CONSTITUTION:Dimethyl terephthalate and ethylene glycol are charged through a material inlet 7 into a reaction vessel 6, and transesterified under heating and agitation by means of an agitator 8. The methanol formed by the reaction and the accompanying glycol and dimethyl terephthalate are passed into a rectifying column 1, and the vapor passed through the column is liquefied in a condenser 2, and introduced to a distributor 3, from which part of the liquid is recirculated via a reflux circuit 4 into the rectifying column 3, and another part of the liquid is recovered through a distillate circuit. Here, according to the reaction temperature, and reflux ratio is set low (below 1.0) at the initial stage. This reflux ratio is altered stepwise or continuously at least twice with the temperature rise, and set at infinity, i.e., total reflux, when the overhead temperature of the column exceeds 70 deg.C.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject composition capable of providing films excellent in processability and stable in quality, by controlling the respective concentrations of carboxylic acid terminal groups metallic ions contained in the composition. SOLUTION: This composition satisfies the following two conditions: (1) the concentration of carboxylic acid terminal groups is between 5 equivalents/t and 200 equivalents/t; and (2) the concentration of metallic ions is between 0.5 ppm and 300 ppm. This composition preferably contains between 0.001 wt.% and 10% of inorganic or organic particles based on the aromatic polyamide. This composition is made into a polymer solution using a solvent, and the solution as film-forming stock solution is processed to make films according to a solution film-forming method. Thus, the affinity between the particles and the polymer is improved, thereby, being capable of providing aromatic polyamide films excellent in durability under severe environmental conditions.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject composition capable of being molded into films usable as magnetic recording media having excellent traveling and outputting characteristics even under severe conditions, by including each specific range of the weight fractions of high molecular weight components in the composition. SOLUTION: This composition preferably contains 1-40 wt.% of a high molecular weight component having a molecular weight of 50000 or higher, 0.5-30 wt.% of a 2nd high molecular weight component having a molecular weight of 100000 or higher, and 0.1-20 wt.% of a 3rd high molecular weight component having a molecular weight of 200000 or higher. The method for adjusting the composition as the above include, e.g. blending an aromatic polyamide component containing a high molecular weight component having a molecular weight of 50000 or higher. Thus, small-sized and thinned films can be provided, being usable as e.g. digital recording materials capable of compactly recording a large amount of data.

    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polyester composition which has excellent moldability and can give a film excellent in slipperiness, abrasion resistance and scratch resistance by using internal deposition type particles having a specified particle diameter and a specified particle diameter distribution. SOLUTION: This polyester composition contains internal deposition type particles prepared by performing the reaction for producing a polyester in the presence of 0.05-3.0mol%, based on the total dicarboxylic acid component, total of an alkali metal compound and an hlkaline earth metal compound and 0.05-1.5mol%, based on the total dicarboxylic acid component, phosphorus compound to deposit particles during the reaction. Because the internal deposition type particles have a mean particle diameter of 0.5-10.0μm and an at least bimodal particle diameter distribution, this composition has excellent moldability such as fiber-forming properties and film-forming properties and can give a molding excellent in slipperiness and surface properties.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To prevent the vacuum circuit of a condensation polymerization system from being clogged and to prevent the glycol distilled from escaping out of the system, by the batchwise condensation polymerization of a glycol ester of a discorboxylic acid in a reaction system, reduced in pressure at a specified rate. CONSTITUTION:In the preparation of a polyester by the batchwise condensation polymerization of a glycol ester of a discarboxylic acid, the reaction system is reduced in pressure from 760-100mm.Hg in 10-25min, and from 100-10mm.Hg in 5-15min. Said method, being applicable either to ester exchange or to direct polymerization, is more effective for the direct polymerization, in which a vacuum circuit is markedly clogged in the polymerization system. In the condensation polymerization of a glycol ester obtained by esterification or a low polymer thereof, it is preferable to use one, in which a ratio of a terephthalic acid group to a terminal hydroxy group is about 1:0.1-1:2.0.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To prevent the vacuum circuit of a condensation polymerization system from being clogged and to prevent the glycol distilled from escaping out of the system, by opening a reactor valve at the beginning of the condensation polymerization of a polyester, to release the glycol distilled, and closing the valve when the reactor reaches a specified pressure. CONSTITUTION:In the preparation of a polyester by the batchwise condensation polymerization of a glycol ester of a discarboxylic acid, a polymerizer equipped with a delivery tank for the glycol distilled, capable of being connected to or disconnected, by a valve, from a receiver for the glycol distilled, is used. In such a polymerizer, the glycol distilled is introduced from the receiver into the delivery tank, by opening the valve at the beginning of the reaction, and the valve is closed when the reactor reaches a pressure of 100-1mm.Hg. It is undesirable to close the valve at a pressure >=100mm.Hg, because a sufficient amount of the glycol is not stored in the delivery tank, while a considerable amount of the glycol distilled is stored in the receiver and it is redistilled with increased vacuum.
