    Abstract: Un aparato de fundición a presión para fabricar objetos compuestos de un material que tiene una temperatura de fusión por encima de 1093ºC o más particularmente por encima de 1649ºC, comprendiendo el aparato: - una unidad (24) de fusión para fusión de al menos una carga única del material; - un troquel (36) de piezas múltiples, que define la cavidad del troquel ; - un manguito de disparo (30) generalmente cilíndrico, en comunicación de fluido con el troquel (36) y para recibir material fundido de la unidad (24) de fusión, teniendo el manguito radios interno (Ri) y externo (Ro); y - una unidad (40) de pistón en acoplamiento móvil y de cierre hermético con el manguito de disparo (30) a lo largo de una carrera del pistón para forzar el material desde el manguito de disparo (30) dentro de la cavidad (36) del troquel; caracterizado porque el aparato comprende además: - el medio (22) para proporcionar un entorno de presión reducida para la unidad (24) de fusión, el troquel (36) y el manguito de disparo (30); y porque - el radio (Ri) interno del manguito tiene al menos 25mm; y - la relación (Ro/Ri) es al menos 1,25.

    Abstract: Provided is a cast nickel-base superalloy having improved machinability characteristics having a formulation by weight percent of: upto 0.017 carbon, 0 - 0.015 phosphorus, 0 - 0.015 sulfur 17.00 - 21.00 chromium, 50.00 - 55.00 nickel, 2.80 - 3.30 molybdenum, 4.40 - 5.50 niobium and tantalum combined, 0.30 - 0.80 aluminum, 0.65 - 1.15 titanium, 0 - 0.006 boron, 0 - 0.35 manganese, 0 - 1.00 cobalt, 0 - 0.35 silicon, 0 - 0.30 copper, and the balance iron. The cast article may be hot-isostatically pressed at a temperature and pressure sufficient to substantially reduce segregation within the nickel-base superalloy, and thereafter heat-treated to achieve a fill precipitation heat-treated condition, which substantially increases the strength of the superalloy. Subsequent to hot-isostatic pressing and heat-treatment, the cast article has a standard machinability rating of at least 13% when compared to an AMS5010 steel.

    Abstract: A fan blade is disclosed comprising a lightweight metallic airfoil portion and a high-strength sheath portion. The airfoil portion has a forward airfoil edge, a first airfoil surface, and a second airfoil surface. The sheath portion has a sheath head section, a first sheath flank, and a second sheath flank, both flanks extending chordwise from the forward sheath section. The sheath portion is bonded to the airfoil portion such that the sheath head section covers the forward airfoil edge, defining a blade leading edge. The first sheath flank covers a portion of the first airfoil surface proximate the airfoil forward edge, jointly defining a blade suction surface.     Abstract: An article is disclosed which is formed out of an alloy consisting essentially of 0.5-3%Ta, 1-4%Al, 1.7-5%Ti, 15-25%Co, 0-3%Cb, at least 12%Cr, at least 0.05%C, with the balance being essential nickel. The article is in the form of an aggregation of grains of said alloy, and includes discrete chromium carbide precipitates located along the outer perimeter thereof so that adjacent said grains define a substantially serrated grain boundary which offers improved mechanical properties.
