Abstract: A method and system for colour calibration of a colour display device. A colour stimulus (such as a grey patch 706) is displayed on the display which a user adjusts using natural language commands until it appears to visually match a fixed reference stimulus (such as a 50% binary halftone pattern 702.) The colour stimulus may be displayed via a graphical user interface, GUI 700. Digital values of the adjusted colour stimulus are used to derive a calibration or correction function for the display. The calibration function can then be applied to produce corrected colours on the display device. The natural language command may be an instruction such as "make reference patch less purple" which enables the user to calibrate the display without the use of sliders or manual controls and does not require the user to understand colour mixing technology when making separate red, green and blue adjustments to match a specified patch. The invention is designed to make the colour adjustment process simpler and faster.

Abstract: A system 100 and method of displaying a digital colour image to a user 106, receiving a colour selection for modification and direction of change using a textual interface 104, receiving a magnitude and/or polarity of the colour modification using a swipe interface 142, applying the modification to portions of the image comprising the selected colour, and displaying the modified image to the user. The magnitude and polarity of the swipe interface is based on the amount of swipe motion by the user. Slot machine-style spin boxes 130, 132 may be used on the interface for rotating and scrolling through different options based on user clicks, touch swipes or device motion. The colour editing may appear to the user on the screen in real time. A natural language control (NLC) system may be used to allow the user to choose colours based on basic ordinary language dictionary colour terms that are parsed, converted and transformed into colour space values. The system may operate on touchscreen smartphones 102 and perform intuitive colour editing on the images 112 captured by the mobile devices built-in camera.
