Abstract: A method of performing antimicrobial susceptibility testing (AST) on a sample uses a reader device that mounts on a mobile phone having a camera. A microtiter plate containing wells preloaded with the bacteria-containing sample, growth medium, and drugs of differing concentrations is loaded into the reader device. The wells are illuminated using an array of illumination sources contained in the reader device. Images of the wells are acquired with the camera of the mobile phone. In one embodiment, the images are transmitted to a separate computing device for processing to classify each well as turbid or not turbid and generating MIC values and a susceptibility characterization for each drug in the panel based on the turbidity classification of the array of wells. The MIC values and the susceptibility characterizations for each drug are transmitted or returned to the mobile phone for display thereon.

Abstract: This disclosure is directed to systems and methods for fusing Raman data with biomarker data to identify a disease and/or the progression of the disease. The system disclosed herein may include an illumination source for generating interacted photons from a biological sample and a detector for detecting the interacted photons to generate a Raman data set. A processor is included to fuse the Raman data set with a biomarker data set to identify a disease and/or a disease progression. The instant disclosure further includes a method comprising illuminating a biological sample to generate interacted photons, and detecting the interacted photons to generate a Raman data set. A biomarker data set is obtained from the biological sample, and the Raman data set is fused with the biomarker data set to generate an index score. The index score correlates with one or more of a disease and a disease progression.

Abstract: An apparatus for the high throughput measurement of optical properties of liquid samples placed into the wells of a multiwell plate is disclosed. An optical fiber within a fiber bundle containing no corrective optics between the fiber ends and the well plate bottom illuminates the sample in order to induce fluorescence, and multiple fibers collect emission radiation and transmit it to a fluorescence detector such as a spectrometer. Other embodiments involve a light scattering illumination source with detection fibers located in either the same bundle containing the fluorescence monitoring fibers or an independent light scattering detection bundle for the measurement of static and/or dynamic light scattering. Some embodiments of the invention permit the measurement of phase analysis light scattering. Thus the measurement of multiple optical properties of a liquid sample may be made simultaneously or in succession. A method for these measurements is also disclosed.

Abstract: The invention provides a method for chemical signature resolved detection of a concealed object within a system. The method includes irradiating the system at a plurality of positions with aplurality of electromagnetic radiation of specific wavelength; capturing a certain component of the scattered electromagnetic radiation from the object at a plurality of locations along various 3D planes around the system; obtaining a plurality of profiles from the captured component of the scattered electromagnetic radiation; filtering the profiles to obtain a chemical signature specific to the object; and resolving the chemical signatures to detect the concealed object, wherein, the step of detection includes determination of the shape, size and location of the object.

Abstract: A controller of an optical measurement apparatus causes, in a condition that a rotational speed of a rotary body is controlled so that the speed is a specified value, a light source to generate light having a constant intensity and apply the light to an irradiation region, and acquires first timing information based on a change with time of an intensity of reflected light or transmitted light that is output from a second detection unit receiving the reflected light or transmitted light of the applied light. The controller causes the light source to periodically generate pulsed light in accordance with the first timing information and apply the pulsed light to the irradiation region, and acquires second timing information based on a result which is output from the first detection unit whose measurement is periodically enabled in accordance with the first timing information.

Abstract: A mammography device is disclosed. The mammography device includes a container configured to surround the breast and a plurality of optical fibers attached to be directed inward in the container and configured to perform radiation and detection of light. The container has a base member having an opening, a plurality of annular members continuously disposed to come in communication with the opening, and a bottom member disposed inside the annular member spaced the farthest distance from the base member. The annular members and the bottom member are configured to relatively displace the adjacent annular member on the side of the base member or the base member in a communication direction. Some of the plurality of optical fibers is attached to the plurality of annular members.
