Abstract:
The present invention relates to chimeric adenovirus capsid proteins comprising a part of or all of an adenovirus capsid protein and a binding partner of a cell-surface binding site on a cell present in gut associated lymphoid tissues (GALT) of a mammal, wherein the chimeric adenovirus capsid protein is capable of binding the cell present in gut associated lymphoid tissues (GALT). In some examples, the adenovirus capsid protein is located on the surface of the adenovirus capsid. The present invention provides adenovirus capsids comprising a chimeric capsid protein. The present invention also provides complexes comprising a chimeric adenovirus capsid protein bound to a cell in GALT. The present invention also provides encapsidation systems and vectors, in particular adenovirus vectors, capable of expressing a chimeric adenovirus capsid protein encompassed within the invention. The present invention also provides viral particles, host cells and compositions comprising such vectors, in particular for use in vaccines, methods of eliciting an immune response and methods for targeted delivery of heterologous proteins, such as antigens, to target cells.
Abstract:
In one aspect, the invention provides methods and apparatus for detecting a mismatch in a nucleic acid duplex by measuring the impedence of a nucleic acid layer on an electrode, for example by AC impedance spectroscopy.
Abstract:
Plant stresses such as pest infestations, disease, drought, flood, and excessive temperatures can lead to significant losses of crops each year. There is a continuing need to develop novel plant varieties that are less susceptible to damage or loss by such stresses. The present invention provides for the isolation, characterization and use of an entirely novel class of plant genes, generally designated ROB5 . Transgenic plants expressing ROB5 can show a dramatic improvement in their capacity to tolerate a variety of stress conditions. Moreover, ROB5 expression can further lead to marked increases in plant growth rates and plant vigor. The present invention encompasses all such ROB5 genes and peptides encoded thereby, plants expressing corresponding ROB5 constructs, and plant products thereof.

The CAMP factor gene of Streptococcus uberis ( S. uberis ) is described, as well as the recombinant production of CAMP factor therefrom. Also disclosed are chimeric CAMP factor constructs, including CAMP factor epitopes from more than one bacterial species. The CAMP factors and chimeras including the same can be used in immunogenic compositions for the prevention and treatment of bacterial infections.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to the characterization of the porcine adenovirus E1 and E4 regions. The complete nucleotide sequence of the genome of porcine adenovirus type 3 (PAV-3), providing the characterization of the PAV3 E1 and E4 region, is described herein. Methods for construction of infectious PAV genomes by homologous recombination in procaryotic cells are provided. Recombinant PAV viruses are obtained by transfection of mammalian cells with recombinant PAV genomes. The PAV-3 genome can be used as a vector for the expression of heterologous nucleotide sequences, for example, for the preparation and administration of subunit vaccines to swine or other mammals.

Abstract:
A crop harvester has bristle guards (39) mounted on the cutter bar (14) as crop lifters and to capture fruit lost by dehiscence during cutting. Each bristle guard is a set of laterally oriented bristles (44). Dehisced fruit is swept into the header by a pickup reel (16) having bristle bats (74). The bristles (76) are supported on the leading side by a strip (78) of flexible belting. The belting protects the bristle bats against being cut by the cutter bar. The crops are supported against being pushed forward by the bristle bats (74) of the reel. The reel diameter is reduced to about one-half normal and the reel index is increased to provide an aggressive reel operation, ensuring that plants are properly engaged in the bristle guards for cutting.
