Abstract:
Compounds and compositions containing them, for insecticidal control, particularly for use as soil and/or foliar insecticides, have the formula in which
R 1 is C 1 -C 3 alkyl; R 2 is C 1 -C 6 alkyl or C 5 -C 6 cycloalkyl; R 3 is hydrogen or C 1 -C 3 alkyl; R 4 is hydrogen, C 1 -C 4 alkyl, phenyl, halogen or halo-(C 1 -C 4 alkyl); and R 5 and R 6 are independently hydrogen, halogen, C 1 -C 4 alkyl, phenyl, or C 2 -C 5 carboalkoxy; or R 3 and R 5 taken together form a trimethylene group; provided that if R 3 , R 5 and R 6 are all hydrogen, R 4 is not hydrogen; together with insecticidal compositions containing such compounds, and methods for controlling insects.
Abstract:
@ Triarylphosphates are prepared by phosphorylation of alkylphenols without use of phosphorylation catalyst. An improved phosphorylation step includes preheating alkylphenol feedstock to 150°C. and completing reaction at 215°C. or above in the presence of a stoichiometric excess of alkylphenol. The absence of phosphorylation catalyst simplifies distillative purification of reaction product by eliminating the need to withdraw purified product as distillate.
Abstract:
Electronic interference shielding of electronic apparatus to a substantial degree is accomplished by using, as the shielding element, a delamination resistant and formable polymer/metal foil laminate. It comprises a flame retardant and relatively rigid, yet formable polymer film, an adhesive layer attached to the polymer film, and a metal foil, of less thickness than the thickness of the polymer film, attached to the side of the adhesive layer remote from the side attached from the polymer film.
Abstract:
The invention is directed to a process for recovering elemental phosphorus values from phosphorus-containing waste materials. The process comprises reducing the size of the solid particulate materials of the sludge and forming a uniform homogenous sludge which is filtered through a high-pressure thin-cake filter resulting in a filtrate high in phosphorus values. The invention also discloses a pump retrieval means for retrieving the sludge from contaminated disposal areas and a preconditioning dewatering means for thickening and clarifying the sludge prior to comminuting the solids contained therein and filtrating to recover the phosphorus values contained therein.
Abstract:
This invention relates to novel processes for preparing organic isocyanates from primary monoamines and phosgene in which the primary phosgenation step is carried out at elevated temperatures from about 75°C up to about 100°C. Sophisticated mixing apparati are not required. The primary monoamines can be aniline, a haloaniline, e. g., 3,4-dichloraniline, an alkylaniline, or a haloalkylaniline, e.g., 3-chloro-4-methylaniline.
Abstract:
The invention is directed to inorganic oxide aerogels and the method of preparing such inorganic oxide aerogels which are characterized by high surface areas and high pore volume. The preparation comprises dissolving the inorganic alkoxide or metal salt in a solvent optionally containing a catalytic amount of an acid or base and hydrolyzing to form a gelled or colloidal material which is further treated with a fluid at or above its critical temperature and pressure to extract the solvent which is then dried to remove surface water.
Abstract:
A mutant strain of bacteria characterised in that it is deficient in L-serine deaminase activity is disclosed. Such may be used in the production of amino acids or precursors thereof and such a process is also disclosed. The invention offers advantages.
Abstract:
Synergistic herbicidal activity is demonstrated by composition comprising the following two components:
(a) an herbicidally effective amount of N-phosphonomethylglycine and agriculturally acceptable salts thereof; and (b) an an herbicidally effective amount of an aryloxyphenoxy pentanoic acid ester of the formula wherein A is CH or nitrogen, Y is hydrogen or chlorine, Z is selected from a member of the group consisting of and R is hydrogen or a straight or branched chain lower alkyl group having from 1 to 4 carbon atoms.
