Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily process the terminal of a plastic optical fiber to have a low loss by locating the terminal of an optical fiber so as to touch a solvent liner to transfer the solvent to the terminal of the optical fiber, and polishing the terminal of the optical fiber by the generated surface tension. SOLUTION: A removable cover 101 covers a solvent liner fixed to a base 102, and is also adhered to the base 102. A lift tub 103 facilitates the removal of the removable cover 101. The solvent liner is dipped in a solvent for polishing the terminal of an optical fiber by dissolving the surface layer of the terminal of the optical fiber causing a surface tension for automatically polishing the optical fiber. The cover 101 is pulled and separated, and the plastic optical fiber is brought into contact with the solvent liner to transfer the solvent to the terminal of the optical fiber. When the terminal of the optical fiber is returned to its general non-flexible state, the polishing work is ended.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the moisture-proofness of the cable drawing-in part of a cable joint storing box and facilitate drawing-in and drawing-out of a cable. SOLUTION: An approximately U-shaped cut-out 70 is formed in the edge of a storing box body 10 and a rubber component 72 is detachably attached to the cut-out 70. The rubber component 72 is folded at the middle in its longitudinal direction so as to retain a cable 48 in the folded part. The inside of the rubber component 72 which retains the cable 48 is made of soft rubber 78 which is easily deformed when it is pressed against the cable 48. The outside of the rubber component 72 is made of hard rubber 80 which is more difficult to be deformed than the soft rubber 78. Outer fillets 84A and 84B which cover both the side edges of the cut-out 70 are formed on both the ends of the rubber component 72. The inner fillet 86 which covers the other end of the rubber component 72 is formed on the one end of the rubber component 72.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for selecting a coding mode for a video sequence by deciding whether inter-frame coding is executed or intra-frame coding is executed on the present part of a video sequence, based on only a sample reproduced before it is associated with the video sequence. SOLUTION: The coding mode selector 112 of an encoder is connected to a present frame memory 118. For selecting a coding mode, only a previously reproduced value (sample) from the present frame memory 118 and a previously reproduced value (sample) from a reference frame memory 122 are received. The coding mode selector 112 forms templates from the present frame memory 118 and the reference frame memory 122 and compares pixel intensity values associated with the pixels in the respective templates. For selecting the mode, the value of the reproduced sample is used.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ominidirectional or panoramic viewer where several cameras have a common valid optical center by arranging the several cameras so that the cameras view the different reflecting surfaces of a polyhedron such a pyramid. SOLUTION: Individual cameras 52, 54, 56 and 58 have a common virtual optical center in a pyramid 40. The camera 52 observes a reflection from a surface 48 to view objets in the direction of an arrow 60. The camera 54 observes a reflection from a surface 42 to view objects in the direction of an arrow 62. The camera 56 observes a reflection from a surface 44 to view objects in the direction of an arrow 64. The camera 58 observes a reflection from a surface 46 to view objects in the direction of an arrow 66. Each of cameras 52, 54, 56 and 58 has a 90 degree field of view. A 360 degree view of the area which surrounds the pyramid 40 is generated by combining the observed reflecting images of the four cameras.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the decibel level of an audible sound signal to be generated by distributing a characteristic audible sound signal to a selecting device connected to a LAN. SOLUTION: When a fire alarm system 32 detects a fire, the system 32 generates a characteristic audible sound signal. The electric representation of the audible sound signal generated by the system 32 is transmitted to a telephone set 22, a television set 24 a computer 26, an electronic oven 28 and a washing and drying machine 30, these devices interpret an electric signal, and the system 32 generates the representation of the audible sound signal showing that the fire is detected through a LAN. Thus, it is possible to reduce the decibel level of an audible sound signal to be generated and also to obtain wide coverage with the entire environment.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the method capable of connecting a plastic made optical fiber without being polished in a dry state. SOLUTION: An optical fiber is cut while being compressed in the axial direction (while pushing the optical fiber 21 with clamps 22, 23). When the optical fiber is cleaved (cleavage), it is pulled with a high strain rate to be broken after it is notched. The strain rate is set so that strain exists in the elastic zone until breaking or during breaking, that is, the optical fiber is subjected to such a strain rate that the optical fiber has no ductility and shows brittleness during from strain until breaking. The brittle characteristic is required for the smooth trailing end surface for promoting a low loss in unpolishing connection in a dry state.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the defect of a circuit by providing a trans-conductance proportional to a bias current and plural difference transistor pair circuits which are connected in parallel and consisting of transistors having non- exponential voltage-current characteristic. SOLUTION: The respective transistor devices 210-1, 210-2 of a difference transistor pair circuit 200 have non-exponential voltage-current characteristic such as a MOS transistor. Thus, the multiple difference pair circuit 100 can be constituted without considering the kind of transistors to use. In general, trans-conductance gm is the ratio of variation with respect to the increment variation of input voltage Vin when the bias current I0 of the output currents I1, I2 of the circuit 200 is kept to be constant. The characteristic of the trans- conductance gm is the right/left symmetrical function of Vin.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To minimize advanced working time or cost and incorporate in an existing jack connector by installing a first metal electrode having a first terminal; a second meal electrode having a second terminal; and a dielectric spacer arranged between the electrodes in a crosstalk correcting capacitor supported within a housing. SOLUTION: A capacitor correcting assembly 80 has a housing 82 having a first gap 84 and a second gap 86. The gaps 84, 86 have an almost rectangular cross section, and are formed in an overlapped state within the housing 82, but the side walls are shifted in the horizontal direction by the central distance (d) of free end parts adjacent to a terminal contact line. The assembly 80 has two crosstalk correcting capacitors 88, 90. Each of the capacitors 88, 89 are constituted with a first electrode 92 and a second electrode 94. The electrodes 92, 94 have metal plate conductive finger-shaped terminals 96, 98 respectively. Each of the capacitors 88, 90 has a dielectric spacer 100 arranged between the electrodes 92, 94.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cable having a comparatively small cross-talk when the bit transmission speed is high for a relatively long distance. SOLUTION: This local area network cable 17 capable of making high-speed signal transmission has a plurality of twist pairs 12, 13, 14, 16 consisting of conductors encapsulated in a sheath. Each twist pair has a different number of twists from the others, and at least one pair has a twist direction different from the others, i.e. it can have a clockwise twist in the case where the other pairs have counterclockwise twist. If the cable is of four-pair type, two pairs having different number of twists are given a clockwise twist while the other pairs are given a counterclockwise twist.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the decrease in a time in which a capacitor accurately stores a peak value by injecting a current substantially duplicating a leak current from the capacitor. SOLUTION: When there is a long reception period of only a single value in a receiving signal, a leak current is injected to a capacitor Cpk to substantially accurately guarantee the current leaked from a peak detector capacitor Cpk. Practically, a transistor TR4' is connected to a power supply CR2' similarly to a case connecting a transistor TR4 to a power supply CS2. The transistor TR4' is substantially same as TR4 and the power supply CS2' is substantially same as the power supply CS2 so that there is a substantially same leak current to TR4' base as the leak current from the capacitor Cpk to TR4 base. As a result, the leak current to TR4' base is accurately duplicated in TM collector, or an output of a current mirror.
