Abstract:
A process for improving the catalytic properties of a substantially crystalline iron bismuth molybdate oxide complex interim catalyst comprises incorporating at least one element from Groups IA, IB, IIB, IIIA and IIIB of the periodic Table into the catalyst by impregnation, none of the Group IA elements incorporated into the catalyst by impregnation being derived from a molybdate or silicate. The catalysts provide improved results in oxidation type reactions.
Abstract:
A polyamide is produced by polymerizing at least one of alpha, beta unsaturated carboxylic acid, an ammonium salt of an alpha, beta unsaturated carboxylic acid, an alpha, beta unsaturated nitrile and water, a beta-amino propionic acid or alkyl derivative thereof and an alpha, beta unsaturated amide and ammonia in the presence of a catalyst containing cobalt. Preferred catalysts comprise cobaltous carboxylates and cobaltic salts of the enol of beta-di-ketones.
Abstract:
A process of upgrading synthesis gas to hydrocarbons and oxygenated hydrocarbons, particularly olefins and carboxylic acids, comprises contacting synthesis gas with catalysts comprising the mixed oxides of ruthenium, copper, an alkali or alkaline earth metal, and optionally a metal selected from Ce, Cr, Fe, Mn, Mo, Th, Zn or mixtures thereof. The synthesis gas upgrading product may be contacted with a hydrogenation catalyst to provide alkanes, alcohols and esters, useful for fuels. Catalysts comprising the mixed oxides of ruthenium, copper, at least one alkali metal and at least one of rhodium, iridium, palladium, and platinum are further disclosed which are useful in the upgrading of synthesis gas, particularly for obtaining alkanes and alcohols.
Abstract:
A process for the conversion of oxides of nitrogen to nitrogen gas comprises the step of passing the oxide of nitrogen over a reactant carbon fiber material at a temperature of from 450°C to 750°C. The process may be carried out continuously, a carbon-containing gas such as carbon monoxide or methane being passed with the oxide of nitrogen over the reactant carbon fiber material optionally with the co-use of hydrogen. The reactant carbon fiber material may comprise carbon and a host material comprising reduced metal and a support material.
Abstract:
A nitrile barrier resin composition which comprises a blend of (1) a copolymer produced by the polymerization of a major proportion of a mono-unsaturated nitrile and a minor proportion of another monovinyl monomer component polymerizable therewith optionally in the presence of a preformed diene rubber; (2) a carboxylic acid; and (3) an alkaline filler containing a polyvalent cation. The physical properties of a nitrile barrier resin, particularly the tensile modulus, heat distortion temperature and processability, are improved by including therein the carboxylic acid processing aid and the alkaline filler material.
Abstract:
A bismuth cerium molybdate catalysts oxide complex catalyst contains a promoting amount of an alkali metal TI, Sm, Ag, Cu, Cr, Sb, rare earth metal other than Ce and Sm, Te, Ti, Zr, Th or mixture thereof. Such catalyst provides high yields of acrylonitrile in the ammoxidation of propylene and give improved results in other oxidation-type reactions.
Abstract:
A composite oxidation catalyst is prepared by forming and activating a first oxidation catalyst; forming a second oxidation catalyst; contacting the first catalyst with the second catalyst and a substantially non-aqueous organic fluid to form a composite catalyst; and drying the composite catalyst. The second catalyst may be formed in situ on the first. The catalyst has utility in preparing unsaturated aldehydes and acids from propylene and isobutylene in a single reactor.
