Abstract:
Provided are novel thermosetting powder coating compositions which are useful for coating metal articles and protecting such articles from acidic corrosion. The compositions are comprised of an epoxy containing acrylic copolymer crosslinked with both an aliphatic dibasic acid and a blocked polyisocyanate.
Abstract:
This invention relates to a process for preparing amido-carboxylic acids in water wherein hydrolysis and amidation reactions are conducted simultaneously in a single vessel. The process involves three steps. The first step involves heating at a temperature of 150 DEG C-300 DEG C for 2 to 10 hours, a mixture containing water, a nitrogen containing compound selected from the group consisting of a lactam and an amino acid, and a carboxylic acid or ester. The second step involves cooling the reaction mixture to obtain a two-phase system containing an aqueous layer and an organic layer. The third step involves separating the amido-carboxylic acid containing organic layer from the aqueous layer. The presence of water aids in product isolation by phase separation and recycle of the reactants. Amido-carboxylic acids are used to make bleach activators for detergents.
Abstract:

Abstract:
A process for the preparation of a maleated polyethylene wax is disclosed. This process entails mixing in the melt phase polyethylene, maleic anhydride, free radical initiator and a chain transfer agent m-di-isopropylbenzene. This process can be a continuous process either in a stirred reactor or twin screw extruder. The resulting maleated polyethylene wax has a high acid number, essentially no objectionable odor, and a Gardner color number less than 3.
Abstract:
This invention relates to naphthalene dicarboxylic acids or naphthalene dicarboxylic esters substituted with aroyl groups. More particularly, this invention relates to the following compounds: dialkyl 1-benzoyl-2,6-naphthalene dicarboxylate, 7-C1-C8-alkoxycarbonyl-1-C1-C8-alkoxy-1-aryl(1,3-H2 naphtho{1,2-c}furan-3-ones), and dialkyl 1-(2-naphthoyl)-2,6-naphthalene dicarboxylate. The compounds are useful in any polymer composition where dicarboxylic acids or dicarboxylic esters are used especially in poly(ethylene 2,6-naphthalene dicarboxylate) compositions where reduced fluorescence is desired.
Abstract:
Disclosed are improved processes for the recovery of 3,4-epoxy-1-butene (EpB) from an epoxidation effluent comprising EpB, butadiene, oxygen and butane obtained by the selective epoxidation of butadiene with an oxygen-containing gas in the presence of a catalyst and an inert gas. EpB is separated from the effluent by means of an absorption process using liquid mixture of butadiene and butane as the absorbent material. The inclusion of butane in the epoxidation and recovery processes permits the use of lower pressures in the absorption of the EpB product.
Abstract:
Novel parenteral nutrient compositions are disclosed. These compositions are sterile aqueous solutions containing an effective amount of at least one glycerol bisacetoacetate of formula (I) wherein one R group is hydrogen, and two R groups are -(COCH2COCH3). These compositions are useful as a substitute for glucose in intravenous feeding.
Abstract:
This invention relates to a cosmetic film forming composition which is freeze-thaw stable and is especially useful as a nail coating composition which upon drying forms a film which will adhere to keratin of a nail. More particularly, the present invention relates to cosmetic film forming compositions which consist of aqueous emulsion (A) which comprises a sulfopolyester and a copolymer of vinyl acetate and dialkyl maleate or fumarate; aqueous emulsion (B) which comprises an aqueous emulsion polymer of acetoacetoxyethyl alkylacrylate or the polymerization reaction product of acetoacetoxyethyl alkylacrylate with a vinylfunctional monomer; and (C) a freeze-thaw agent. The freeze-thaw agent imparts improved freeze-thaw properties to the composition without being detrimental to desirable properties such as fast drying time and good adhesive properties.
Abstract:
A shrinkable copolyester film having shrinkage of not less than 30 % in either the machine direction or transverse direction after specific heat treatment. The shrinkable copolyester film of the present invention is excellent in shrinkage properties and is substantially free from wrinkles, and uneven shrinkage. The copolyester is useful as a shrinkage label for PET bottles.
