Abstract:
A device and method for measuring the concentrations of components of a fluid stream. Preferably, the fluid stream is an in situ gas stream, such as a fossil fuel fired flue gas in a smoke stack. The measurements are determined from the intensity of radiation over a selected range of radiation wavelengths using peak-to-trough calculations. The need for a reference intensity is eliminated.
Abstract:
A need exists for a tank regulator that can reduce a pressure of more than about 4,300 psi to a much lower pressure. The present disclosure describes a piston regulator that allows for pressure to be reduced from an inlet pressure of about 5,000 psi or more to outlet pressure of about 2,000 psi or less. The regulator includes intermediate chambers to provide step-down pressures along the piston. The internal chambers enable to hold pressure differentials between the high-pressure inlet and the low-pressure outlet. The pressure in the intermediate chambers is maintained by a pressure-limiting valve to control the pressure differentials across piston seals. These seals allow the piston to actuate while maintaining a seal between the various pressure chambers.
Abstract:
A composition containing a carbon monofluoride admixture is provided. The carbon monofluoride admixture is generally in the form of layer having opposing upper and lower surfaces. Usually, an ion conducting or a solid electrolyte layer is position on one of the upper or lower layers of the monofluoride admixture. In some configurations, the ion conducting or a solid electrolyte layer can be alkaline metal aluminum oxide or alkaline metal aluminum fluoride. The alkaline metal is commonly lithium, and the alkaline metal aluminum oxide or alkaline metal aluminum fluoride is more commonly M z AlX y (M is one of alkali metals, X = O, F), Z can have a value from about 0.5 to about 10 and y can have a value from about 1.75 to about 6.5. The carbon monofluoride admixture can include a polymeric binder and one or more of a conductive carbon black and conductive graphite.
Abstract:
The present invention is directed to a pre-positionable prosthetic hand, including one or more pre-positionable joints. Pre-positionable joints in accordance with embodiments of the present invention include a multi-axial thumb joint, a metacarpal- phalangeal joint and a wrist joint. Additionally, the present invention may include a number of pre-positionable phalanges or fingers having a segmented construction, which allows them to be placed in various positions. The present invention may be used in connection with a pentadactyl glove and may be positioned in such griping positions as: a key or lateral grip, a hook grip, a cylindrical grip, a spherical grip and a tip-pinch grip.
Abstract:
The present invention is directed to a suppression system in which a carrier gas and suppression liquid are contained in a common containment vessel and separated by a separation member. The separation is one or more of movable, deformable, or shape changing in response to pressure exerted by the stored gas.
Abstract:
In one embodiment, a method and system is provided for detecting target materials using a combination of stroboscopic signal amplification and Raman spectroscopy techniques.
Abstract:
The present invention provides systems and methods for quantifying, purifying and separating fullerenes, such as single wall carbon nanotubes (SWNTs). The purification/separation combination provides nearly 100% carbonaceous impurity-free SWNT content from a given impure sample and provides a desired chirality and diameter from a given non-separated sample. Nanometrological validation of the success of purification and separation uses a pyroelectric detector and Raman spectroscopy in a single system, thus providing a critical aspect for the nanomanufacturing environment. The purification/separation and nanometrological validations may be performed in a feedback loop to provide a satisfactorily refined sample and optimized purification/separation settings.
Abstract:
A cable lock device includes a body 204, 616 and a factional shoe 208, 608 operable to engage a Bowden cable 120, wherein, in a first mode, the Bowden cable 120 moves freely in first and second opposing directions 304, 308 and, in a second mode, the shoe inhibits the Bowden cable from moving in the first direction 304 while allowing the Bowden cable to move freely in the second direction 308.
Abstract:
The present invention discloses a process for removing undesired particles (35) from a gas stream (36) including the steps of injecting (10) by the use of nozzles (37) a composition containing an adhesive (40) into contact with the gas stream (36); collecting the undesired particles (35) and adhesive (40) on a collection surface (28) to form an agglomerate (44); and removing the agglomerate (44) from the collection surface (28).
Abstract:
The present invention provides a portable data collection device (10) that has a variety of sensors (52) that are interchangeable with a variety of input ports (16) in the device (10). The various sensors (52) include a data identification feature that provides information to the device (10) regarding the type of physical data produced by each sensor (52) and therefore the type of sensor itself. The data identification feature enables the device (10) to locate the input port (16) where the sensor (52) is connected and self adjust when a sensor (52) is removed or replaced. The device (10) is able to collect physical data, whether or not a function of time.
