    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device having a wide view angle which is uniform irrespective of the direction.SOLUTION: A display device includes a backlight which emits planar light and pixels, each having: a first aperture layer (225) having first apertures for passing the light from the backlight; a mechanical shutter (228) which is electrically driven by a thin film transistor to control transmission of light coming through the first apertures; a second aperture layer (212) having second apertures, corresponding to the first apertures of the first aperture layer, for passing the light coming through the mechanical shutter; and a high refractive index layer (214) which covers the second apertures of the second aperture layer and is a transparent layer having a refractive index higher than that of a transparent fluid (221) that fills a space between the first aperture layer and the second aperture layer. Thickness of the high refractive index layer is smaller in central sections of the second apertures than in end sections thereof.
