Abstract:
An eddy current probe adapted for detecting cracks in material directly beneath a raised-head fastener is disclosed. The probe comprises an eddy current coil and a support means for carrying the coil in an orientation suitable for introducing eddy currents into material directly beneath a raised-head fastener.
Abstract:
In an embodiment, a dual-etalon cavity-ring-down frequency-comb spectrometer system is described. A broad band light source is split into two beams. One beam travels through a first etalon and a sample under test, while the other beam travels through a second etalon, and the two beams are recombined onto a single detector. If the free spectral ranges ("FSR") of the two etalons are not identical, the interference pattern at the detector will consist of a series of beat frequencies. By monitoring these beat frequencies, optical frequencies where light is absorbed may be determined.
Abstract:
Doped luminescent materials are provided for converting excited triplet states to radiative hybrid states. The doped materials may be used to conduct pulse shape discrimination (PSD) using luminescence generated by harvested excited triplet states. The doped materials may also be used to detect particles using spectral shape discrimination (SSD).
Abstract:
A continuous-flow filter/concentrator for separating and/or concentrating particles in a fluid is disclosed. The filter/concentrator comprises three ports: an inlet port (110), an filter port (170) and a concentrate port (200); a plurality of insulating posts (140); and electrodes (100, 180, 190). The filter/concentrator separates particles into two streams by the ratio of their dielectrophoretic mobility to their electrokinetic, advective, or diffusive mobility, respectively. Also disclosed is a device for separating and/or concentrating particles by dielectrophoretic trapping of the particles.
Abstract:
Novel silico-titanates and the methods of making and using the said titanates are disclosed. Nb-doped silico-titanates are particularly useful for selectively removing cesium from radioactive wastes. An example of such Nb-doped silico-titanates is shown in the figure. Such figure shows an X ray diffraction pattern of an Nb-doped silico-titanates having the largest d-spacing of 7.8 Angstroms.
Abstract:

Abstract:
The present invention provides for a method of fermenting or saccharifying a biomass comprising: (a) (i) contacting a biomass comprising a polysaccharide, and an ionic liquid (IL) to form a first solution, or (ii) providing the first solution comprising the biomass and the IL, (b) contacting the first solution and carbon dioxide such that the first solution results in a lower pH, (c) introducing (i) an enzyme capable of enzymatically to breakdown at least one bond in the polysaccharide or a breakdown product of the polysaccharide, and/or (ii) a microorganism that capable of producing the enzyme and/or fermenting the polysaccharide or a breakdown product of the polysaccharide, such that the polysaccharide is at least partially broken down and the first solution is transformed into a second solution.
Abstract:
A MEMS apparatus with dynamic displacement control includes a MEMS parallel plate capacitor integrated with one or more memristors in a series configuration wherein a displacement is observable as a function of memristance, such that an upper electrode position is capable of being interpreted in a form of a resistance rather than a capacitance. The current is limited by said MEMS parallel plate capacitor restricting a change in the resistance of the memristor(s). The memristor(s) can be employed in some embodiments a sensor element to improve a MEMS operation range.
