Abstract:
A power point tracking apparatus employs irradiance detection for performing Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) of a PV panel. The apparatus controls an operating voltage of a PV panel inverter by regulating the operating voltage of the inverter at a computed optimal voltage based on a detected irradiance of light on the solar panel providing power to the inverter to result in a maximum power generation from the solar panel. The inverter receives the DC (direct current) from the solar panel and generates an AC (alternating current) signal at a fixed voltage (typically 110-120v) usable by grid based power consumers.
Abstract:
The present disclosure provides a biologically-inspired robotic device comprising: a first member; a second member pivotably connected to the first member; one or more actuators; and a coupler/decoupler mechanism (CDC) selectively coupling or decoupling of the one or more actuators to the second member, such that, when the one or more actuators are coupled to the second member, the one or more actuators act to pivot the second member relative to the first member.
Abstract:
A toroidal actuator is responsive to a teleoperator for providing haptic feedback responsive to a curvature or articulated movement applied to a gripped object. The toroidal actuator surrounds an operator member such as a finger, and is responsive to pneumatic pressure for increasing telepresence force defined by resistance encounter against a teleoperated robotic claw. As the teleoperated claw grips an object, increased pneumatic pressure in the toroidal actuator tends to elongate the toroidal shape in a linear manner and oppose a curvature force applied by an inserted operator finger. Resistive force is based on soft sensing of the gripped object, thus the toroidal actuator applies an increasing resistive force to curvature as the robotic claw closes around a gripped object by solenoid regulated air pressure. A typical assembly includes at least 3 toroidal actuators for two digits and a thumb of an operator.
Abstract:
A parallel robotic manipulator for generating 3 dimensional structures includes a set of redeployable towers adapted to transport one or more cables, and at least one drive source operable to draw or traverse the cables across a rendering area. An end- effector suspended from the cables is operable to deposit extrudate onto the rendering area, and a nozzle in the end-effector is configured to selectively deposit the extrudate at predefined locations based on the position of the cable. A control unit has control logic for directing the drive source, in which the cables are responsive to the drive source for disposing the end-effector either along the cables or drawn and extended from the towers. An extrudate reservoir and a pump in fluidic communication with the reservoir allows the pump to force the extrudate for deposition at the predefined location responsive to the control logic.

The present disclosure provides devices and methods for cleaning up or burning spills of burnable materials in situ. In some embodiments, a system for burning a burnable material comprises a base having a first side configured for placement on a surface with a burnable material and a second side; and a plurality heat conducting members extending from the second side of the base.
Abstract:
Actuators and methods of use are provided. An actuator may comprise an inner member made from an elastic material and defining a compartment for receiving an actuating fluid, the inner member being moveable in a longitudinal direction from a relaxed state to an expanded state by introducing an actuating fluid into the inner member; and an outer member made from an inelastic material and being disposed around the elastic inner member to control expansion of the elastic inner member in a radial direction, the outer member being moveable from a folded relaxed configuration to an unfolded extended configuration as the inner member moves from the relaxed state to the expanded state, wherein the movement of the actuator between the relaxed state and the expanded state causes a movement of a structure to which the actuator is attached.
Abstract:
The techniques herein describe an approach that can quickly geolocate Internet users that are connected through a wireless (e.g., WiFi) network. To do so, one or more embodiments herein send specially-crafted signals to the user's IP address. When these signals are broadcast by the user's wireless router to the user's wireless device, they have a discernible signature. Other geolocation efforts may then be used to scope the Internet user's location (e.g., to the appropriate city or section of a city). A user or automated device may then physically traverse (e.g., drive through) the search area listening on wireless channels for the discernible wireless signature. Once it is located, directional antennas and triangulation may be used to exactly locate the user.
Abstract:
A volatile liquid storage container has combustion resistance properties from a flexible sock or tube constructed of fire resistant fibers coupled to a neck of the storage container to prevent flame flash-back into the storage container. The storage container defines an enclosed volume having an orifice in the container material leading to a neck for pouring and filling the enclosed volume for exchanging the contents therein. The tube is elongated and surrounds a circumference of the orifice for engaging any ignition source entering through the orifice. The flexible nature of the tube or sock allows it to extend to an opposed interior surface of the enclosed volume, and ensures that the tube or sock is immersed in the fluid for encircling any ignition path to the volatile liquid without interfering with an ability to pour or refill the container.
