    Abstract: PURPOSE: A gesture recognition driving support system is provided to relieve the anxiety of a driver by obtaining information with respect to side obstacles for preventing the minor collisions and personal injuries of inexperienced drivers. CONSTITUTION: A gesture recognition driving support system comprises an internal image taking unit(10), a direction detection control unit(20), an external information obtaining unit(30), an image information presentation unit(40), and an ECU(50). The internal photographic unit is installed around a driver's seat for recognizing and taking images with respect to the gesture of a driver. The direction detection control unit determines to indicate a direction by receiving image information from the internal image taking unit. The direction detection control unit transmits a signal to the external information obtaining unit for taking images and obstacles outside a vehicle when the image information is identical to a predetermined image. The external information obtaining unit recognizes the images and obstacles outside the vehicle through the direction and signal from the direction detection control unit.
