Abstract: A method for calibrating the top dead center of an engine according to an embodiment of the present invention comprises: a step of measuring pressure in a cylinder; a step of determining whether or not the operational condition of the engine becomes an overrun condition; a step of calculating an actual top dead center based on the measured pressure in the cylinder when the operational condition of the engine is determined to become the overrun condition; a step of calculating a difference between the actual top dead center and a previous top dead center; and calibrating the previous top dead center into the actual top dead center when the difference is determined to be larger than a predetermined value. Therefore, the actual pressure in the cylinder is detected, and the top dead center can be easily detected by the peak point of the pressure. Also, the pressure in the cylinder is detected at a predetermined timing, the peak value of the pressure is easily calculated by averaging crank angle values corresponding to the pressure, and the actual top dead center can be easily detected by the peak value. In addition, the previous top dead center can be calibrated into the actual top dead center when the difference between the actual top dead center and the previous top dead center exceeds the predetermined value. Furthermore, the top dead center is calculated to be advanced in consideration of the RPM of the engine and the delay time of a sensor, thereby previously acquiring the top dead point more precisely.
